Why is Georgia favored even though…

Alabama already kicked their azz just a month ago?
Is it mainly because of Bama’s inconsistencies?
I think Bama’s offense has an easier time scoring on Georgia’s defense than vice-versa….I see Bama winning by 4-10 points if both play to their capabilities

My guess is people are looking at us potentially having 5-6 starters out for the game due to injury.

Vegas’ models are based off an entire year of data. 1 game isn’t gonna shift a line much in a 13 game season

Totally different outcomes in the first games. One was a defensive classic won by 3 points. The other was a beat down.

Well, to me it was pretty obvious to see Bama was the better team even though LSU won the first game.
You just can’t see the same scenario in Bama and Georgia’s first game. Georgia looked outmatched!

But it is still likely based off of a full season of work. UGA has been much more consistent. They’re also healthier. I heard Josh Pate say they were predicted to be like a 2-3 point favorite even going into the semifinals so those games didn’t have a huge impact.

Vegas doesn't care who wins. They care about getting equal money on both sides of the bet.

they have been consistently great this season and have a really good team. It seems we have a matchup advantage in terms of overall style of play, Vegas power rankings see Georgia as a slightly superior team despite what happened in the SEC championship - likely also partially due injury concerns for Alabama coming out of the semifinal.

Georgia also most recently soundly defeated a better team, Michigan, than Alabama did, Cincinnati.
Had Alabama won by 35 and Georgia beat Michigan in a nail biter, I could see where Alabama may have gotten more Vegas love.

I don't think it is at all clear that Michigan is a better team than Cincy though.

Bookmakers lay the line where they feel that they will get as close to 50% of the $$$$ bet on both sides as possible. That being the case, I imagine most will decide that between having some key players injured, along with the difficulty of beating a comparable competitor TWICE in one year will put Alabama at a slight disadvantage.

They are both undersized teams that faced teams with better and bigger athletes. I actually think the Michigan vs Cincy game would have been a good one.

I mean if you look at their schedule, Cincinnati’s schedule was an absolute joke for a playoff team and they still only had a slightly higher average margin of victory compared to Michigan.

I think Michigan would’ve been a bad matchup for Cincinnati. Cincinnati’s strength is obviously their passing defense but Michigan can’t throw well anyway. They can however run. While UGA has an elite rushing defense, Cincinnati does not as we’ve seen. Their style of defense combined with being undersized up front wouldn’t bode well. Michigan’s defense is definitely not as good as Bama’s but Cincinnati’s pass protection isn’t the best. So Hutchinson and their other 1st round DE would’ve had success.
Cincinnati’s still a good team and they deserved the playoff spot. But I think they’re a step below Michigan who is a step below Bama and UGA.

History. Look back over the years when a team has lost to a team in the regular season only to beat 'em in the postseason:
1978 Nebraska-Oklahoma: Nebraska wins regular season, loses the rematch in the Orange Bowl

It's hard to beat a good team twice in the same season...doesn't mean it can't be done (Bama beat the Gators twice in '99) but I can see why they'd favor UGA. I'd rather us be the underdogs here any way....

I agree, but I think Georgia looked more dominant in their win than Alabama did in ours. Georgia was a terrible matchup for Michigan (and they also just tried to do their normal thing for the most part which was foolish).
And then again, taking the whole season in perspective, Georgia played with far more consistency.
