I can give multiple examples between the end of the 2019 season and the start of the 2020 season.
Kendrick Rogers - undrafted
Quartney Davis - undrafted
Debione Renfro - undrafted
Jhamon Ausbon - opted out of entire 2020 season - undrafted
Anthony Hines - opted out of entire 2020 season - undrafted
Every player that has declared from A&M so far is either a 1st/2nd round pick (Leal, Green, Wydermyer, Spiller) or a graduating senior with an extra year of eligibility due to COVID (Peevy, O'Neal, Clemons, Johnson).

Rennie Curran did manage to be a 3rd round draft pick after declaring before his senior year. But he never played a down and was in the canadian league after a couple of years off of practice squads. He played 1 season and then got injured the 2nd and never played again.

You take your shot.
If you can make a practice squad, you will make $184,000 for 16 weeks of practice.
Not bad for a 22-23 year old and opens some doors if you want to go into coaching.

Our RB entered also and no shot he gets drafted. He’ll end up on a practice squad

He will never in a million years get drafted but he's "declaring." I've seen this with various players and everyone comments "Go be great" etc.
Actually this is where the NIL might be a positive. Guys like that that can stay in school for another year or two and make $20K or $30K might not leave.
There is something to be said about keeping role players on the roster.

I honestly don't blame the ones that have graduated. Unless they legitimately have a shot at significantly increasing their draft stock. The ones you are describing pretty much are what they are by this point.

I thought he was going to be really good when he came out of high school.

There's decent money to be made on a practice squad. Practice squad players make $8,400 per week or $142,800 for 17 weeks.
As a side note, NFL waterboys make, on average, $53,000 a year

A Wide Receiver that runs a 4.8 at the combine either becomes a blocking TE or has played his last game.

They might as well. Some could sign as UFA, others could go to an other league and make the NFL later, like Kurt Warner did. Not much downside for the players.

For the past two years guys from Texas A&M declared and were not drafted. Some sign as free agents and most never have a long run in the NFL. Maybe NIL will make some stay longer.

Christian Tutt did this last year. Some kids just don’t want to be in college anymore even though they have no shot at playing at the next level.

Maybe not quite the same but Ceryl Grayson, who never played a snap for LSU dropped his track scholarship to train for the NFL. Now this kid is a free agent that just blew it up for the Bucs last Sunday and after the Antonio Brown fiasco will be sitting pretty soon.

Will he get a Combine invite? I saw two players from AU last year that I thought would at best be playing in the CFL. Both are on NFL rosters today. The Combine and Pro Days seem to be more important than season production.

This seems to be a new-ish thing.
Well, a lot of players declare for the draft without getting drafted. Some are a surprise, and some are not.
