Since CFB is a business now why not just have the players on contract. Scholarships and NIL money tied to a period of performance that runs the calendar year. Play all the bowls and playoffs before the end of the year. Opt out/transfer prior to end of your contract year pay back a portion of you NIL and scholarship money. Re-up Jan. 1 and you’re back under contract for spring ball/summer workouts and the season.

reimburse the school for the funds that they were given is the only logical answer, but for that reason will never happen

Yep, they need to be treated like pros now. Have contracts and salary caps/luxury taxes to try to build competitive balance and some measure of competitive integrity.

CFB has always been a business for everyone but the players

There is no way the NCAA steps in and dictates a student pays back their scholarship. It’s really up to a school and it’s not worth it to them. It’s a sunk cost at that point and a school just looks bad to future recruits if they do that. Just not worth it. And the only party that will be able to touch on paying back NIL deals in case of an opt out is the business itself. That’s about the only way they are going to get these draft eligible kids back in bowl games. The NCAA will get killed if they get involved the terms of NIL if it forces kids to pay back the money they were contracted to receive.

Just expand the playoffs. It's not that hard. Anyone who says the games won't be any good haven't been watching the current playoff games.

The NCAA would probably lose tax exempt status the second they try to set up anything close to a “salary cap”. They already walk a tightrope but making any rule that ties competitive balance with how much a kid makes out of NIL will pretty much end tax exempt status. You can read up on hearings in Washington about the NCAA and athletes getting paid. If the NCAA is ok with losing tax exempt status, they may consider all of that but I don’t think anyone wants to lose it.

No NIL. Players get a base salary, a game bonus if they play more than x plays in the game, and a starting bonus per game if they are listed as the starter. All FBS conferences vote on the salary each year. It's the same for each player on the roster at each school in the conference and is paid by the conference itself. So teams like Texas can't just spend five times what KState can pay.

No solution needed. It isn’t an issue.

Transfers are great. Without them neither Bama or UGA or playing in the NC.

Opting out of the Rose Bowl is epically stupid. One day when football is behind you, thats the stuff of legend.
