TrueLefty on SECR posted LINK grading the 1st year coaches. How biased do you have to be to think Bret Bielemma's 5-7 season at Illinois gets a B while Auburn's 6-6 season gets a D+

ETA: The author barret sallee attended Auburn, but seems to side or make lots of spins against Auburn

I like Harsin and our direction. However, the TAMU, USCe, GaSt, MSU, and Bama game(s) was really bad coaching. I am good with a D rating. Vs UI, I take that as we have a higher ceiling.

Are you saying UI had the same talent AU did? Last I looked, we were 12ish in the country in terms of roster talent.

What Harsin did during the season wasn’t that impressive.

The steps in the off-season might turn out inpressive. The QB position remains to be seen. But he did get rid of Bobo and did rerecruit Tank. And he actually shown he can recruit with a gun pointed at his head.

I also like Sallee most of the time. I’m not sure about Bielemia but I don’t care enough to try to follow Sallee’s logic. I didn’t even read the article.

I am not sure how the bama game was "bad coaching"? That was a hell of a job by our staff. We were a boneheaded play, by a player, from beating them.

Perspective. Drill in Tanks head to stay in bounds.

USCe and Miss State games make that D- well earned. Win those and we're at an A if you ask me. Winning those would've made Bama loss sting less also.

I still think there were a few missed grounding calls in that final bama drive then in OT

Harsin just needs to prove himself in the coming years.

I don't have a problem with the D grade.

We must not have watched the same football season. 6-6 finish. Some god awful losses. Fired two assistants.

Just like with Gus before, Harsin wears the results directly on his forehead. Win games and get a better grade

The way I look at it: we have 3 easy wins every year. We purchase those. The other 9 are what matter and we went 3-6 in those games and we barely got one of those 3 easy wins.

A few things here:
1. Sportswriters and analysts who graduated from a certain school always seem to go overboard in showing they aren’t biased in favor of where they came from. Keep that in mind.
2. A D+ is probably a bit harsh but not out of the realm of rational thinking.
3. I probably had him at a C- overall until the impressive closing on early signing day. Now I’m much more optimistic even though I do think next year could be a tough one

Leaving a one-legged QB in at the end of the game when he not all that good with two legs.

I think a lot of the bad calls down the stretch was Hars' kind of policy to let the OC die on his hill with his decision making, and not to interfere there. I think with Hars being the guy with the reigns there should change that perspective.

My main take here is that a 5-7 Bielemma with the big wins over PSU/Minn being the best thing this season shouldn't get the B grade. D makes sense for Auburn if D is the same grade Bielemma gets. Honestly a few plays our way in those final 4 and it felt like it could've been a great first season. Some of those were coaching, some of those were players...most of it is coaching though.

If so, crappy policy and a good way to get fired real damn quick. If he doesn't realize that every single game is extremely important, he is out of his league.

The problem was scoring in the 2nd Half. Only 12 2nd Half points for the month of November.

TAMU (0 2nd Half Points)
3-3 at Half. 20-3 Final

USC (3 2nd Half Points)
14-14 at half. 21-17 Final

MSU (6 2nd Half Points)
28-10 AU at half. 34-43 Final

Bama (3 2nd Half Points)
7-0 AU at half. 10-10 End of Regulation.

*Also, only 3 2nd Half points against Ole Miss. For an average of 3 2nd half Points for the last 5 games of the season.

I dont care about the grade....but Barrett Sallee is not as smart as Barrett Sallee thinks Barrett Sallee is. He's on our local radio afternoon program every week and you can hear the arrogant pretension in his voice.

I haven't read the article, but I mean, if you look objectively, BB inherited a team with worse talent and played a comparable schedule in terms of B1G vs SEC (and where the talent level falls in those leagues). He actually beat Penn St in Happy Valley. I believe that was our only H2H competition.

And I have no idea if this is true or not, but I bet Illinois didn't blow 4 consecutive 2nd half leads to finish out their season.

I'm not a Harsin basher (actually like what he is doing for the overall program), but the abysmal finish to the season is a GLARING issue for him and the program. There is no way to spin it. I mean, we realistically could be sitting here at 9-3/10-2 even going into the bowl game. Yet, we are 6-6 staring at a possible losing season MAINLY because of coaching. No other way around it.

Fair, considering the way they blew 2nd half leads.

4 game losing streak. Grade seems legit to me.
