I've been waiting to see what this kid can do. He broke all of Kyler Murray's records in Texas.

I doubt he plays, not Harsins type QB. He does not look like and SEC QB to me.

The talk is that he has not looked good in practice. He is tiny and fumbles have been a problem. As have turnovers.

I know that everyone wants him to turn into the guy, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Neither does Bryce Young, but he just won the Heisman.

Throw him out there. Some guys are just gamers. Find out if he is one of those guys.

Explain. Is it the 51-3 record in the highest classification in Texas football, or the 13,583 total yards of offense he put up?

Is he supposed to look amazing running with the scout team against the starting defense?

Not much different the Bo's stats. And Bo didn't have D1 WRs as well. So high school has nothing to do with college.

I'm for giving DD a chance but there's a reason he was behind Grant Loy

He did put up stats, but he also played for a stacked team. They had a WR that was even higher rated as a recruit than he was. They had another WR that I believe ended up at Colorado. This isn't really a basis of argument; Clint Moseley won Mr. Football in Alabama his SR year and we obviously know how that one turned out.

I am more disappointed he did not get some reps earlier in the season, he could have redshirted and still played in 4 games. (Goes for other players also).

Our QB room is fantastic. Wow.

Bo Nix, gone.
Dee Davis, small and not SEC caliber.
TJ Finley, bad.

Man, what a time to be alive.

The laziest of lazy takes.

Kyler Murray was a UNANIMOUS 5-star recruit even with his height. Dee Davis was not. There seems to be this narrative to paint it as if Murray "defied the odds", when really, he was expected to be elite - hence why his transfer was such a big deal. This also destroys the narrative that Dee Davis was "underrated" as a recruit due to his size, because Kyler Murray had the same limitations and was still a 5-star.

The reality is that Kyler Murray was a much better player and prospect, period. We stole Davis from Virginia Tech. He went to the Elite 11 and did not stand-out. After Malzahn was fired, there wasn't a battle to see who could snatch Davis away from us. Comparing him to an elite talent like Kyler Murray because they're both short and put up stats in Texas HS is silly.

DD’s OL was particularly good. It was a brick wall. His HS highlights are an easy watch. They’re pretty well filmed and the fields are well lit. I think you learn more about these QBs from the film than stats

Anyway, he does some really good things. As a true dual threat QB I think his passing is good. Not sure he’s as good when you make him stay in the pocket. Especially with our OL

He’s short but I wouldn’t call him small. He’s built like a running back. Really stocky. Probably doesn’t have much left in his frame. I think the practice stuff is true. He wasn’t really good at the elite 11 but he’s just one of those guys that plays the game well. Harsin has called him a gamer and I think that’s a good description

Would be great to see him succeed and I hope it happens, but under no circumstances am I getting my hopes up. Even if he does ball out, it will be against Houston. Yes, they are a solid team this year, but it will have no correlation with how DD would perform against a full SEC schedule next year.

Size-wise DD is bigger than Kyler (5' 10" 202 lbs vs 5' 10" 195 lbs) but everyone needs to remember how Kyler performed in 2015 against SEC level competition...

ETA Kyler at TAMU played in 8 games, 59.5% comp%, 686 yds passing, 5 TD vs 7 Int...

Excited? Ofc not.

WHen a exQB, OC/HC doesn't see enough in DD to at least put him behind Finley, something is going on.

Possibly, if DD stays, spring will show Harsin something else.

Now if you see a QB transfer signed that had excellent stats from his past school, in a pro type offense, then we will definitely never see DD start.

So 1A football in Alabama is the same competition as 6A in Texas? Got it.

I hope Davis plays the whole game. He needs 4 games worth of experience.

Does Harsin understand the modern redshirt rules? Doesn’t he think showing that freshmen can get playing time would help with his recruiting. He needs to start helping himself out.

It's the same premise, boss - HS stats mean frick-all. Clint Moseley's 1A Alabama team also wasn't loaded with other recruits that were going to SEC schools or other P5 teams.

Go watch the tape again, his HS's offense was loaded. He wasn't even the "best recruit" on his own team - there was the WR from his class, but I believe they also had a 2022 DB that was a 5-star at one point (not sure if he still is).

This game is the perfect game to put the kid in. It's basically a glorified scrimmage, which basically all bowl games are nowadays, except the ones that matter. We know what Finley can do already.
