I still have Bear Bryant as the GOAT.....

if you're judging by his lifespan. He can't help that his body quit on him. Cigarettes ads from the 1930s to the 1950s all said they were recommended by doctors.
The man had 6 NCs by the age of 66. He didn't have the option of backdooring his way into a playoff like in 2017 or losing to the SEC Champion in 2011 and getting a rematch.
Bear also had 323 wins by age 69 compared to Saban at 268. Saban had the advantage of more games a year too.
Bear didn't have all these recruiting sites telling him where to go find the best players. This man just drove around the south for the most part and developed guys.
Bear also won Kentucky's only SEC Championship in football. For those that don't know Kentucky is considered a co-champion with Georgia after Mississippi State had to forfeit a game against Kentucky years later.

I don't think you can really compare eras but Bear was the greatest of his generation for certain. My Dad always talked about his presence when he was at A&M and how the moment he walked in a room he immediately got everyone's attention and you had no doubt who was in charge. Still the world he lived in was so different than Saban I don't know how you really do apples to apples.

Don't really care, but I have a hard time believing you are an Alabama fan.
You sound more like a bitter LSU fan.

C'mon dude. It is clearly Saban, why even fight it at this point.

Saban would coach circles around Bryant.

"People think I'm the greatest damn coach in the world," said Bear Bryant, "but Neyland taught me everything I know."

Saban is miles better. In Bryant's age you could cheat openly and no one cared.
In addition, the SEC is way tougher these days which makes Sabans run more impressive.

Saban is still one of the few coaches with an old school vibe.

Teams pay players these days.

But way harder to win an NC during Bear's time.

I will call a spade a spade. Do I have to be a homer just to be accepted here?

If it wasn't for Bear, Georgia Tech would still be in the SEC.
He also didn't have to deal with an 85 scholarship total limit or 25 scholarships per class.
Bear had coached 90 more games than Saban by age 69 and won 55 more games.

They didn't play as many games and with one loss, a team didn't have enough games to make up for it.

Is that because Bear was winning most of them?

He wasn't the only one.

Bear didn't have the luxury of modern technology to recruit players.

It's not Bear's fault Saban couldn't make it to the big leagues as fast as Bear.

The Bear was a good man, great coach and deserves every accolade he gets except that Saban outdid him. Nothing to be ashamed of.

I don't know if a conference will ever dominated the same way Bear dominated the SEC in the 70s.
1971
1972
1973
1974
1975
1977
1978
1979
He only missed out on two conference titles:
1970, where Alabama was mediocre before he installed the Wishbone
1976, where Alabama finished 5-2 to finish second behind Georgia.
1976 Ole Miss is a strange one - they managed to beat both Georgia and Alabama, but didn't finish above .500 for the season.

He lived in a time that he could sign a lot more than 85 and did.

Over on the Bama Board it seems you must hate Pete Golding and Bill O'Brien to be accepted. The posters over there know more than Saban does. Maybe one of them will take over for him when he heads to the lake for good.

And it's not Saban's fault that his wining percentage is higher because he didn't coach at aTm or Kentucky.
