He will need a strong staff to help him out. No doubt he knows defense, but he will need to hit a home run with his coordinators since he lacks the Head Coaching experience

Lebby is on board already apparently. With venables as HC and Caleb Williams staying, while retaining most of the 2022 class, OU is not in nearly as bad of shape as I expected when the Riley news broke. I think this needed to happen at some point for OU to be set up for SEC play.

From the outside this looks very meh. Venables is a weird guy that always lacked the charisma and people skills to run a program, even a middling one like Oklahoma. That being said, my uncle who is a Sooner legend, two time all American and two time National Champion for that program in Norman, has made the claim that OU hasn’t had a good coach since Venables.
Not sure why OU fans are excited, but they are the most delusional fan base in the country, so they’ll lie to themselves like this was a highly demanded coach that any program of relevance would want. It’s cute to see. I’ve even seen some of the coping Sooners blame that strength and conditioning coach. Adorable.
