Is it true that Auburn is petitioning the Alabama DOT to rename the section of Highway 431 that runs through Lee County? Just something I heard today. I can’t find anything about it online. But it sounds like something they would do. Wonder what they are wanting to rename it?

So there are no sections of Highway 431 that are already named something else?

Highway 431

quote:

U.S. 431 is paired with unsigned State Route 1 throughout almost all of Alabama, with the exception of Dothan, where it is paired with signed State Route 210 around the eastern portion of the bypass named Ross Clark Circle. There is also a business route through downtown Dothan signed as Business US 431 and locally known as Reeves Street which runs into Business US 231. The two routes are signed concurrently through downtown and known locally as N. Oates Street north of Main Street (Business US 84) and S. Oates Street south of Main Street

quote:

The combined routes travel westward from Exit 191 into Oxford, where US 431 splits off at Exit 188 and heads northward through Oxford and the adjacent city of Anniston; through this section the route is named Veterans Memorial Parkway.

quote:

From Anniston, US 431 heads northwards towards Gadsden. In East Gadsden, it combines with U.S. Route 278; the combined route passes westward through Gadsden and Attalla before splitting just northwest of Attalla. This route is named Meighan Boulevard in Gadsden and Fifth Avenue in Attalla until reaching US 11,

First on Facebook. I texted a couple people that might know something. One couldn’t confirm but he had heard they are wanting to name it “Newton Jackson Boulevard”. Apparently a couple of business owners and donors are pissed that their address is listed as Hwy 431. They want it to be something else.

Again, all just rumors at this point.

I would suggest “Updyke Drive”. Because that guy knew how to redevelop an area.

The best McDonalds is the 431 McDonalds through Eufaula. Or so it was 15 years ago. All the big fish on the wall, marlins and whatnot.

Phenix City is also no joke.

The greatest thing about all this is Bama fans turning into exactly what they say they hated for 10 years with the kick six stuff

It’s called Memorial Parkway thru part of Huntsville. Not really renaming but an additional name.

Hwys should be left their name. It just confuses people to have multiple names.

For me the best part is watching the auburn fans I work with who gave me crap for 10 years over the kick6 (Gotta Second, Gotta Second, Gotta Second) trying to come to grips with 4th and 31. If you're going to dish it out, you got to take it. Should be a fun few years or so for us Bama fans.

If it's in Lee County, would they go with Robert E Lee Blvd ?

If it's a run through road like you stated they should rename it after your Mom. I Heard she's a run through road whore.
