FortWorthStarTelegram - In the celebrated history of “Brain Dead Guaranteed Buyouts,” Texas A&M has won the national title forever thanks to its deal with football coach Jimbo Fisher.
Paying a person $76.8 million to guarantee they will not work is straight out of the government spending playbook.
For the next few years, the “Jimbuyout” will provide cover for dozens of universities that are contemplating spending millions of dollars to dump a coach.
Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoads and Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork should schedule a meeting at the Blue Moon BBQ in Hearne, halfway between Waco and College Station, to bemoan how their respective employers got played by LSU, which is partly responsible for a mess they did nothing to create.
In 2021, LSU was headed towards its second straight losing record under Ed Orgeron, whom they fired in the middle of October of that year. LSU needed candidates, and Aranda served as an assistant in Baton Rouge from 2016 to ‘19.
He made sense.
That season, Aranda led Baylor to a win over Oklahoma State in the Big 12 title game, and Sugar Bowl victory against Ole Miss. The Bears finished 12-2 and fifth nationally that season as Aranda was the third person this century to prove that Baylor football could be successful nationally.
To avoid their head coach leaving for LSU, or USC, Baylor took the A&M route. When Aranda agreed to a six-year extension that is supposed to keep him there to 2029, all of Baylor nation looked skyward and said, “Thank you, Lord.”
Lauded and appreciated for his stoic demeanor and professorial intellect, those same traits in 2023 make Aranda the dumbest man on a sideline. That’s what happens when you’re a “defensive guru” whose unit allows 32 points a game, and ranks 95th in the nation in total defense.

TTT - In layman's terms, LSU firing Ed Orgeron is the reason why Texas A&M and Baylor are in a coaching crisis. LSU living rent-free in the heads of Texas universities.

Well, to be fair, so is LSU, isn't it. I mean at the moment Kelly has done OK, but should his stint go south as well, doesn't he have a large buyout as well?

Kelly has like a $90M buyout, oof

LSU is the straw that stirs the drink. We all know that.

Not saying I completely disagree with this article, but damn Mac Engel, the writer of this article, is a real chode. He's the official mouthpiece for Chris Del Conte, the current Texas AD and former TCU AD. I hate for him to get any clicks.

And Kelly has gotten LSU a SEC West title and likely another Heisman trophy, due to a quarterback that Kelly pursued. We’re good!

Nah, his entire contract was for $95 million, 90% fully guaranteed if he doesn't win a natty. If LSU fired BK today, his buyout is about what Jimbo is getting.
BK is getting 5 years at LSU minimum; those are dumb contracts IMO but doable if they're the original contract.
A&M's mistake was giving Jimbo a ridiculous extension for no reason.

How long will LSU put up with Kelly? Qb probably winning Heisman this year, but can’t get to Atlanta. And last time they got to Atlanta, got blasted by dawgs, who had 2nd stringers in at halftime?

Woodward didn’t want Fisher at LSU. That’s what LSU fans are now saying…
Welp… which is it?

They were supposed to go 6-6.
Now, it's a negative that they lost the SECCG.

All LSU is missing is an elite SEC DLine but I think Kelly knows that and is recruiting to fill the gap.

Hard to believe coaching a defense would ever be an issue at LSU. But it’s also hard to believe LSU would ever have two Heisman quarterbacks.

Kelly coached LSU to a SEC West title his first year and developed LSU a Heisman quarterback the following year. That’s your definition of a coach who is has done ok?

They want to be LSU so bad. It's truly embarrassing.
They are the Texas College of Envy.
A very horrible trait they have among many others.

A&M is not in a crisis. They fired their coach and have everything it takes to hire a better coach.
Baylor on the other hand desperately wants to fire their coach and cannot. The extension makes the buyout impossible. Go to Sic'em and read. They are having a melt down.
These two things are different. An A&M donor said, If you can afford the contract you can afford the buyout". They were ready to fire him last year. The coaching search started last year. They kept their word. Some people think we are fretting over the buyout. It is done. The decision has been made.
