247Sports releases updated Consensus Preseason Top 25 football rankings.....

Posted on 3/20/23 at 9:58 am
This ranking is a combination of previous polls released by.....247Sports, CBS Sports, ESPN, Fox Sports, Athlon and The Sporting News.
Per 247Sports, "total points used in this exercise were tabulated using a system — 25 points for being ranked No. 1 — and then slotted accordingly. Outliers are mentioned if one organization ranked a team while others did not. Teams who just missed the cut included SOUTH CAROLINA, TEXAS A&M, Iowa and UTSA."
*******************************************************
25. OLE MISS REBELS -- 13 points
The word: Fox Sports and The Sporting News declined to include Lane Kiffin's team inside their respective rankings, but Ole Miss cracks the cumulative poll after being slotted as high as No. 20 on another. The Rebels added Oklahoma State's Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard at quarterback this spring to compete with Jaxson Dart.
24. OKLAHOMA SOONERS -- 14 points
The word: After its first losing season in more than two decades, the Sooners hope to bounce back in Brent Venables' second campaign.
23. Texas Tech Raiders -- 16 points
22. Tulane Green Wave -- 18 points
T-21. Wisconsin Badgers & UCLA Bruins -- 19 points
19. North Carolina Tarheels -- 22 points
18. TEXAS LONGHORNS -- 47 points
The word: Where's the love for Texas? The Longhorns are always adorned with preseason hype, but many are taking the wait-and-see approach with Steve Sarkisian's team in 2023 after last year's success. Quinn Ewers is being pressed for snaps this spring by five-star freshman Arch Manning and the rest of the Texas cast has star potential. There's a reason the Longhorns will receive their share of first-place votes this summer in what we expect will be a wide-open Big 12 race.
17. Kansas State Wildcats -- 52 points
16. Oregon State Beavers -- 54 points
15. Utah Utes -- 69 points
14. Notre Dame Fighting Irish -- 82 points
T-13. TCU Horned Frogs, Clemson Tigers -- 84 points
11. Oregon Ducks -- 89 points
10. TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS, Washington Huskies -- 99 pts
The word: Tennessee was ranked No. 5 inside two preseason polls (Fox Sports and The Sporting News) despite losing Hendon Hooker and its top two wideouts from last season's seismic breakthrough. That's a lot of respect for third-year coach Josh Heupel, who is expecting former Michigan transfer Joe Milton to pick up where Hooker left off at quarterback. Tennessee is no longer flying under the radar after beating Florida and Alabama last season before ending the year with an Orange Bowl win over Clemson. Now, the Vols are one of the hunted.
8. LSU TIGERS -- 102 points
The word: Ranked No. 18 by Fox Sports, LSU was placed inside the top 10 of the other five preseason polls and believe that is a more accurate depiction of the defending SEC West champs approaching Brian Kelly's second season. Linebacker Harold Perkins is a former five-star signee who is the SEC's next superstar on defense. He's a future first-round pick who will headline a super-talented defense in Baton Rouge. Toss in one of the deepest quarterback rooms nationally and LSU is on the shortlist to get to the playoff.
7. Florida State Seminoles -- 102 points
6. USC Trojans -- 113 points
5. Penn State Nittany Lions -- 114 points
4. ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE -- 131 points
The word: Out of six publications, only one (The Sporting News) slotted the Crimson Tide behind Georgia as the nation's second-best team entering the 2023 season. Much of that has to do with the loss of top-end personnel despite signing the nation's top recruiting class this cycle, per 247Sports. Alabama will choose between Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson as its first-year starting quarterback this fall and losing Will Anderson Jr. from the defensive front creates a major vacancy.
3. Ohio State Buckeyes -- 137 points
2. Michigan Wolverines -- 141 points
1. GEORGIA BULLDOGS -- 150 points
The word: Ask anyone who covers college football — Georgia is the unanimous preseason No. 1. Good luck trying to explain putting the Bulldogs anywhere else considering Kirby Smart's program is coming off back to back national championships and continues to churn out first-round NFL Draft talent without missing a beat in the win column. Mike Bobo's promotion to offensive coordinator is something to watch this spring. He'll decide who follows Stetson Bennett under center. We expect the Bulldogs' bread to be buttered on defense, as usual, however.

Nothing to support Texas or Ole Miss being ranked. Texas because of 30 years ago and Ole Miss because of Kiffin.
Kiffin is 23-13 at OM and in the 13 losses there are some lopsided ones.

Rebs return a lot of starters off an 8-5 team, but okay.
There have been some close losses too (Bama by 6, State by 2) but I'm sure you don't care about those.

Loses to lowly LSU with a first year HC, loses your generational QB who lost to a QB who can't properly throw the ball and magically, you're @ #4.

Hard to say. They are coming off winning the west and had a lot of freshmen starting for them. They seem to be young and hungry and that combination makes everyone dangerous. If Alabama isn't careful they could find themselves on the outside looking in again, and then it will begin to look as if the Tide needs the 12 team playoff.

Why? I mean, until very, very recently Alabama fans were in this position. I feel bad that March preseason rankings are not exciting for Alabama fans anymore.

Do you mean the current number 1 AP basketball team in the nation? That ALABAMA?
Do you mean the current number 1 overall seed in the Big Dance? That ALABAMA?
