UGA fans: Any tips for my first game in Athens?

I've lived in Georgia for 5 years, but have never been to a UGA home football game, so I decided that I'll change that this week. You're playing Kent State, so I'm not about to pretend that the game will be competitive, it's more about the experience than anything else. What are some things I should expect?

Women. Very hot women. Oh, and it’s the best college town, period

Don't worry, it'll probably be purple.

Athens cops are dicks. Don’t drink outside on Athens Clark County property.

Not sure I can be much help as I haven't been to a game the last 5 years or so due to health reasons. Back when I was going to games, I'd say to enjoy the tail gaiting (most UGA fans will welcome in fans of other teams for a chat and give them some food), not to try to leave right after the game and instead try to get food downtown somewhere (I have simple tastes so the Grill was always my go to, or Gumby's Pizza if I didn't want to head downtown), and not to be offended by barking. But perhaps someone can give you more up to date advice.

As an LSU fan, I can say most tailgates in Baton Rouge would welcome UGA fans, as long as we weren't playing them. Hopefully it works the other way around as well. And the traffic after the game sucks there too, I've been stuck in it way too much.

All for team pride, but you will probably draw at least a bit of the wrong kindof attention…

A word of warning though: If he does lay into ya, it’s best to just let him finish.

Don't wear anything gold, you may be viewed to be a Georgia Teck fan.

If you plan on hanging out after the game and seeing downtown, park in a paid lot. If you park at the intramural fields or one of the university lots, they start towing cars 4 hours after the game.

Careful with purple....you could be mistaken for a Clemson supporter and that wouldn't be too cool in The Classic City.
Go for gold. :)

As a Tiger fan who lives in Athens
1. Hit 5 bar for some drinks, or Trapeze
2. Downtown is great
3. Chucks seafood is good as is Last Resort
4. Anything downtown will be good.
5. Do the dawg walk (Similar to ours if you want to see theirs)
6. Come by Hoke Smith building, you will see some of our tribe there tailgating every game. I do a shrimp boil every year at our tailgate.
Its a good time and good fans. Us and UGA fans share a kindred a bit we both hate AUburn and FLorida and not a lot of history between us and what little recent history has been in our favor. Plus both of us have won a NC in the last three years.
Stadium entry sucks a bit. So give it time to get to your seats.

If you are friendly and strike up a conversation, many probably would invite you to partake. II would try the ones between GA Center Hotel and the parking lot at Tate Center, then you could take in the Dogwalk if you like. You should be able to get Abita if you want from 5 pts bottle shop, but if you want to try local, I would go with Creature Comforts Tropicalia on a warm afternoon. Where are you staying? Downtown? Plenty of dining options and choices depending on type and price points. I love Cali n Tito’s cubano (up by the athletic complex) on Lumpkin. Their orange dip is a complete mystery to me: obviously mayonnaise based, sits outside all day, basically addictive, delicious, and yet has never killed me. More formal dining and they might not reservations at this point I like The National and 5&10. Plenty of brunch options. Mama’s Boy can get really crowded. I really like Heirloom, but that is off the beaten track in the Boulevard area. Big City Bread closer to downtown is good. I dislike seafood, so have no idea about those places. As for bars, depends on if you want more low key or loud undergraduate. Haven’t had to deal with driving in on gameday and parking for a while so don’t know how they are dealing with that these days, but I recommend walking if you are staying in town and not in edges.

Funny story on the shrimp boil on a USC game day a few years ago apparently you could smell it from a few blocks away and I had about 4 LSU fans show up saying "I could smell my people and I followed the smell" like they smelled a "bat signal" I had about 5-6 LSU fans bellied up to the table eating.

Check out downturn for sure. If your are staying overnight the party cranks up a notch around midnight. The Last Resort Restaurant has great food if you can get in as the lines are long especially during game days. Walk historic North campus - it’s the area with the arch that borders downtown. Beautiful area.
All this talk about avoiding certain colors is hogwash. Unless you are prancing down Broad Street decked out in GT gear shouting obscenities no one is going to pay any attention.
Have fun. You are gonna love Athens.

Being a noon kick vs Kent St, don't expect a world class tailgate scene. There will be some tail gating, but don't judge what you see as "the athens tailgate scene". It will be feeble.
Are you going solo or with family? Kids? Can't really give good reco's without more information. There are too many directions I can send you.

Are you volunteering to give him a boat ride? Maybe take him fishing?

The atmosphere will be good but nothing like a big SEC matchup. That’s when things get wild
