I figured we’d go man or something different.
I guess the scout showed something that Bama corrected tonight.

That game was crazy.

Any report on Okoro?

Last game we got killed inside and out with Wiley in man. Guess they figured they would make them hit their shots (which they obviously did).

They carved us up last game doing that.

Keeping Wiley out of the pick and roll. It's a good strategy most of the time but with Reese they were able to put 5 on the court that could hit the 3

I thought it was a good strategy but we didn't execute. We failed to identify the shootes way too many times

we saw what happened last time when we played man against them. Their guards are too quick for ours to cover. It was a good game plan. You can never account for a team hitting that many 3's.

You can if they shoot that many. 59.

Pearl said we couldn't guard them well enough in man so most of the time we were in zone.

It is true we gave up 22 but many of those were contested or shot way beyond the 3 pet line. Schakelford was the hot one we couldn't stop but late in the game and ot they started to miss more.

59 3's turned their % lower and allowed us more chances to score on our end.

The only thing I would have tried is go man on shakelford and zone every else.

Problem was that their 2pt % was lower than their 3 pt %. We had trouble getting to the shooter way too many times. If we want to go zone then we need to know how to play zone.

I agree. But zone is a dying defense in this age of offensive basketball.

Zone is not practiced much so it shows.

And Alabama is a very good 3 pt shooting team as shown throughout the season. Tonight was more of it.

Even Oats says they shot too many.

Well we got a ton of practice today

I like throwing some at teams just to shake things up and throw them off, but to play it well (really well) it has to be something you practice extensively every day.

Don't expect to see it a lot going forward. We haven't seen it a lot in the past. Like I said earlier......Bruce knew we couldn't cover their guards in man. It had been proven. The saying......if it ain't broke don't fix it......well, Bruce knew it was broke and he tried something different.

It didn't seem like a good strategy while watching, but they missed a lot of those shots and they did not rebound worth a flip. That kept us getting possessions and allowed us to score at an even greater clip than they did.
