DT- Adams looked great, Bradley and Wright were good at times, Blackson was terrible for a large part of the first half, but got better later in the game.

DE - Craig and Owens were solid, with Craig having the better game. Eguae was terrible.

LB - Holland was invisible, Frost and Mcinzy were only a little better. DTs were spread wide often (probably a pass rush formation) allowing the center to get off the ball and block the MLB on several run plays that hurt us.

CB - Davis was really good. Mincy was good at times, but got beat on several third down conversions.

Safety - Therize was outstanding, Holsey was solid but not remarkable, Whitehead needs improvement.

QB- give him a C,, but the potential is obvious and I expect some real improvement next week.

RBs - all three performed their rolls to near perfection

OL - solid game

HB/TE - not terrible, but Prosch missed a couple of key blocks, Uzomah dropped a key pass on third down and Fulse missed a block that forced JW to rush his throw just a fraction on the trick play.

WR - Grade a c-, but I think Bray, Denson, Coates and Louis are all going to be ok once NM gets into a rhythm.

What are people complaining about Coates for? Last time I checked, it was Louis who dropped 2-3 passes. Marshall overthrew Coates by 10 yds a couple other times.

I thought Coates was the best receiver on the field for us other than Bray.

Louis dropped shitload of balls. Coated just got overthrown a couple of times by Nick. You are correct

Marshall did not impress me at all. He didn't look fast at all and was easy to bring down and his accuracy was pretty shitty as well.

Dude has only been practicing with Auburn for what, a few weeks? Give him some time. Need I remind you of the absolute shitshow we had a QB last year with KF?

Agreed, I think a lot of fans are going way over the negative ledge on their assessment of Marshall. I believe he will do well, given some time.

I am more worried about Louis's catching problems than NM's throwing. NM was 70% for the second half. He completed over 50% for the game and if Louis hadn't dropped the 3 passes that were thrown right to him Nick would have been 68%. Plus he wasn't close to throwing a pick. His deep throws were over thrown but no one but the WR would have had a chance at them.

I agree I will not criticize Marshall right now but that deep ball to Louis I believe should have been caught.DC needs to rip those guys a new one.

Nice nugget from Stattiger

NM was 6-8 on 2nd downs and 4-8 on 3rd downs with 2 of the 3rd down incompletions being drops.

My take on the various units since the format was laid out nicely in this post.

quote:

DE - Craig and Owens were solid, with Craig having the better game. Eguae was terrible.

I think our DE's were subpar. They rarely got pressure on the qb and that is their job when the other team throws 65 times. They kept contain, but the qb was not very mobile so that was not a big accomplishment. They did a decent job in pursuit but hell, they better if they are not gonna get pressure. Owens in particular made a nice hustle play in pursuit after a pretty big gain to inside our 5. Play sucked but Owens did stick with it and ran the guy down. Lawson got in position a few times to make a play, but he was hesitant and didn't make it. Which is what I think led to Garner getting on him and pulling him.

LB - Holland was invisible, Frost and Mcinzy were only a little better.

Yep.

I will give him a B- for his first game and only a few weeks in practice. Receivers dropped too many, Nick overthrew too many. But Nick was accurate on the short and intermediate routes as he setlled in in the second half. Needs to learn to put some damn touch on the deep throws.

Subpar for me. Nick often did not have a clean pocket to throw in and they really didn't open many holes up the middle for Mason or CAP.

HB/TE - not terrible, but Prosch missed a couple of key blocks, Uzomah dropped a key pass on third down and Fulse missed a block that forced JW to rush his throw just a fraction on the trick play.

I think they were pretty poor. Missed blocks and dropped passes. Really not very many good plays to offset a lot of mistakes.

I think Coates looked great. He is going to be GOOD. Lot of ability, size, speed and he has put on about 20lbs it looks like. Louis dropped too damn many. Overall though the receivers did get open and did beat their man deep several times. B- on the receivers for me.

Owens

I saw one play wsu had an hback or TE sneak out into the flats for a pass and instead of covering him Owens leveled him. The pass went down field so the refs didn't see it

Outside of the play, I was disappointed that Gus's first game wasn't a sell out. The east upper deck probably wasn't even half full.

Refs did seem to be "letting them play" last night.

Yup, there were a few times I thought we could have been called for pass interference.

We went 3-9 last season
Jay Jacobs is still our AD
Jordan-Hare is showing its age
It was 90 degrees outside
Humidity level was at like 80%
WSU sucks
We even had trouble filling seats for non-conference games in 2010
It's Labor Day weekend

Why in the world were you expecting a sellout?

I agree with all but one thing you said. Why does JHS showing it's age going to keep people from attending? If people won't come bc of the appearance of the stadium, they're doing it wrong

I'd agree with him in regards to the inside of the stadium. JHS seriously needs some major upgrades to the quality of food and drink offered inside the stadium. We are way behind many other stadiums in that regard. Last time I made it to a game middle of last season the food was barely edible.

1st game of the season
Support new head coach
WSU was expected to be improved
Fun to come to a game in Auburn
Fans (hopefully) aren't bandwagon fans

Agree on the food (hot dogs were nasty, nachos are better at high school games, popcorn was stale, but the commemorative bucket has been fun for the kids).

On the rest of JHS. I love it. Some stadiums are fancier and more comfortable, but JHS, in my opinion is a timeless institution.

The upper deck was packed aside from the corners and that's WSU's problem.
