Somewhat simplistic? Everyone who announced our games knew what we were running before the ball was even snapped.
I mean, how in the world did we ever win a game with that going on?
What kind of idiot is Nick Saban to let that simplistic mickey mouse shite beat him with the coaching staff and players he had?
Unless he is not as smart about football as the announcers

What is frustrating for a lot of us is we wanted Gus to be the man. And it seems he had the intellectual capacity to be an elite coach. Just could never put it together

Remember Harsin was looking to get out of Boise because they weren't spending enough money up there. There's no way he takes this job without some assurances, imo.
Gus also pushed for the FOF and even contributed to it. He knew we were falling behind as well.
I could have this wrong on Harsin but I thought his motivation to leave Boise was the fact that he felt like they couldn’t get to the next level in the MWC and that Boise seemed content to stay there and continue dominating. Didn’t see it as a resource thing but I’m not claiming to know all here

Gus’ strategy was based on the idea that coaches who worked 100 hours a week and were paid millions of dollars should be making the reads and adjustments and not college kids with other stuff going on. That was an advantage he outlined. Very smart, dedicated, well paid coaches would teach the techniques and make all of the decisions for the players so that the players just needed to win their rep and execute the play.
And when it worked it really worked. But it didn’t always work

Yeah, I mean I see the logic in it. Problem is it doesn't prepare you for the NFL, which itself hurts recruiting.
Posted on 1/22/21 at 12:50 pm to AUstar
It does hurt in some ways but some guys gravitate to that message. And not all NFL coaches are worried about having to teach the reads and terminology so long that the guy has the physical tools and the technique. And honestly, Auburn is far from the only school that sends kids less than prepared for the NFL. On the other hand, our biggest rivals are well lauded for their preparation and we lose most of those battles
But it usually wasn’t an advantage. That’s certainly fair and certainly true for OL. In the later years we started seeing recruits at WR and QB say similar things. A lot of that is planted by other coaching staffs but there were guys we just never had a shot with on offense because they were convinced they needed more to make it to the next level

That was also reinforced by how many of our OL, WR, and QB fared in the draft.

Someone needs to give Dismukes feedback on his ummms and ahhhs.

I love how the immediate reaction is to claim that the former players are making this all up when it should be obvious by now.
Reese Dismukes was a consensus All American and won the Rimington Award. He wasn't even drafted. One of the biggest parts of the Combine is the white-board test during individual team interviews. How much do you want to bet they asked him to draw up complicated blocking schemes and responsibilities and he couldn't do it? Greg Robinson flopped out of the NFL despite all-world physical talent because he didn't actually know what to do at the NFL level. In 2013 his "blocking assignment" was to just push the guy in front of him as far as he could.
Our passing routes were elementary and our blocking schemes were elementary. Is it any wonder that all of a sudden we couldn't recruit any linemen? I'm sure that opposing coaches had no difficulty telling recruits the truth about what we were and weren't teaching.

Agree. From out of the mouths that lived it and experienced it. Not from some random posters on a message boards. Sounded like Dismukes didn't have the highest regard for Malzahn or his system. He even said that it was time for a change. Confirms what many have said regarding Malzahn for years. Plus he was getting 7 million per for this! God I am glad that clown is gone.

I can believe it about our O Line. It explains why we have had shite OL recruiting.

During the presser, Harsin was asked what positions have the most needs. First position out of his mouth was "O-line."

That was a really good podcast. Thanks for posting that.

That is pure crap ...but believe what you can absorb ...
Are you a former player who played for Malzahn and Harsin? Because if not, why would you even comment to the contrary? I'm listening to 3 former players, one of whom played for both coaches, and I'm inclined to believe their testimony when they don't have any reason to say anything inaccurate.

If you want to speak on Gus and Saban, everyone knew playing Alabama was Gus's national championship. He could care less about making a national championship as long as he beat Saban. Gus threw all of his trick into that one game every year.

With well over seven years of playing and 25 years of Officiating under my belt ...there is no way you can sit and actually watch a game without recognizing multiple sets and plays from each formation. It's obvious you don't realize what is on the field and what is happening. Each formation has a left and right set. Each formation has multiple plays in that left and right set. Some plays repeat themselves from one formation to another. YOU DO NOT platoon players over four plays to get the desired combination of players on the field for a particular play ....it's not done. You obviously are not nor ever will be a quarterback .....now take each play and learn exactly what you are supposed to do for each. Exactly why would Nix have a wrist play card if there were only four plays? This myth has traveled far enough.

I think everyone in here who hasn’t listened to the podcast should actually listen to the podcast.
