When we fire Barbee, we need to hire someone like Nevada Smith

Grantland

Essentially, they emphasize shooting 3s and short 2s while playing breakneck speed. Their 120 possessions per game exceed by 10 even the Mike D'antoni Seven Seconds or less Suns

They are #1 in the NBA D League and are just crushing teams. Score some 123 points per game.

At the very least, we would have exciting basketball

That could actually help make up for the talent discrepancy, almost like the HUNH does for some teams. Focus on shooting 3s and rebounding, it could work.

This is what Mtn. Brook does now. I grew up with the coach there. They won state last year, lost pretty much the entire team, and have made it back to the final four again.

I would be fine with a hire like that.

I'd rather have a coach that's renowned for bringing in great talent.

If KU can get incredible talent to move to Lawrence, KS then we should be able to get someone to bring those same type of guys here.

We need to quit messing around and just offer the next Calipari a huge-arse blank check.

Especially with our compliance department handcuffing us, we will never bring in elite talent. No coach who can recruit at that level is going to come to Auburn unless they blow at coaching Xs and Os

We can never offer the amount of money to compete with the blue blood programs. There aren't very many Caliparis to go around anyways

Kansas is one of the greatest CBB programs of all time.

Josh Pastner wouldn't come either.

Either get an experienced asst from a big time school, or get a guy like Leon Rice or even Larry Eustachy.

He would also bolt for UArizona in a heartbeat given the chance. Doesn't matter where he is, when Arizona calls he will leave

No. Get someone who runs the basketball version of the HUNH with big plays

Mike Anderson isn't doing so hot in the SEC, guys like Eustachy and Rice can coach good fundamental basketball. How many HUNH basketball teams have made the final 4 recently? VCU, Louisville isn't really that fast

Didn't Troy do this a while back? I remember reading an article about their practices which consisted of them running track.

I don't think we will fire Barbee this year. If we do I expect us to try to hire a Duke guy again and the only one early enough into his coaching career that would take the job is Bobby Hurley. He has done a good job in his 1st season as a head coach taking a team that was 14-20 last year and has never made an NCAA appearance. They currently lead their division in the MAC and are 16-8 overall and 10-4 in conference.

I have resigned our fate to never winning championships so I want to watch something fun as shite.

Other thing too is the unconventional style of play makes for victories during hte season since people don't have time to prepare for you. Likely would never win a championship but would be damn fun and pull some Ws out

According to Pomery they are 231st in terms of tempo this year, Auburn is 85th.

Some of the top teams are Arkansas,VCU,La Tech,VMI,New Orleans.

Since I am a Duke guy I love me some Bobby Hurley. He would bring instant credability for a short time but would have to coach the team up to keep that credability.

Given the circumstances that come with theAU job right now I think you need a guy that would be able to bring in players despite the AU admin self banning recruiting from the South East AAU circuit even though Komara does not run it anymore and the disadvantages of being an Under Armor basketball school. The only guy I know available that could overcome those recruiting circumstances is Bruce Pearl. If he were to keep his nose clean I think he would be a great hire. 2 things though. I don't think Pearl is dumb (yes I am saying it would be dumb for a quality coach to take the AU job right now) enough to walk into a handcuffed job like AU. Also, based on Pearl's past I don't think an over-the-top cautious AU Admin would even consider Pearl in the first place.

That is wild. I've watched a decent number of their games, and I would not expect that at all

Ok i've heard this all the time but no explanation, anyone care to explain what it is? Is it just that Nike has a better basketball rep or something deeper?
