Who did you want? For either time.
For Freeze - I got laughed at on this board because I said Cignetti would be the guy I really looked at. I never thought Freeze was it at Liberty.
For Golesh - I thought Sumerall would be ok but I did like what Chesney was doing. Stein would have been fine for me as well & I liked Eric Morris.
Morris is a good developer of talent in my opinion. That is what is needed at times when you don't pay up in NIL. We will see how it all checks out.
I am not a fan of these type of offenses because usually the coaches don't adapt. Gus & Golesh have these. I did mention the GO GO offense (Now OC at Colorado) & that coach if people wanted that type of offense hire him as OC.
I like a coach that can develop and is not afraid to change things up when things aren't working. When these Offensive Gurus get stagnant or predictable it is a mess because they are stuborn and we tend to go 3 and out a lot.

AI just read message boards and formed an opinion on the generic talking points.
This. AI just regurgitates what it finds in the target repository, in this case, the internet message boards, sports idiots (I mean columnists and announcers), and other click-bait sites. It probably gives "As the Plains Burn" some credence.
A series of bad hires and bad recruiting strategies is what got us into this mess. Hard work and smart decisions will get us out. Ain't no easy way.

Talent
I think it was Mike G (or maybe Ike?) who said that he talked to an NFL scout at the AU-LSU game and they were there to scout about 30 LSU players…
And 3 AU players. And one of our 3 was our placekicker.

McElroy said that on his podcast with Cubelic.
ETA: but i'm sure it has been repeated multiple times elsewhere too or he was repeating it.

Damn. Maybe we need to hire you as AD.

The answer is simple.
RECRUIT THE HELL OUTTA THE LINES.
The O-Line can't run or pass block. The D-Line can't stop the run or pass rush.
We get these right and you really just need good talent everywhere else. Even QB.

Not me. But we should look at putting the Guy at JMU who hired them at JMU. He retired and Chesney was his last hire.
It seems our ADs lately have no names on a list. We really need to look at different criteria in this age of NIL & portal. It takes a different coach or one willing to change.
