I hope this is true. I’m all in on Sumrall. If we get him and keep Durkin as DC that would be the best outcome. If Sumrall is in the CFP Durkin can manage the team and recruiting, etc. while Sumrall is finishing his Tulane season which I assume would end Dec 19.

And what?? Do you expect him to come in and compete for championships or will you be happy with the occasional 9 or 10 win season?

I don’t know what his ceiling is but I like his resume. He is well connected in Alabama as he knows almost all the HS coaches. They voted him the best recruiter in the state a few years ago. At Tulane this year he has only 5 returning starters (combined offense and defense) and over 60 new players yet is competing for the AAC Title and the group of five CFP Spot.
He turned things around quickly at Troy going 23-4 in two seasons. He’s hard nosed and no nonsense. He’s well respected and seen by many as an up and comer in the profession. I’d much prefer him over some of the retreads others prefer.

I actually do. I was indifferent on him until this week.
I think he’s cut from the same cloth as Saban/Kirby.
I talked with a few people who worked with him at Troy and prior jobs and they all think he’s going to be majorly successful no matter where he ends up.

Again, do you expect him to compete for championships in this conference? It’s a simple question. Do you want a guy who will win you 8 or 9 games a year or do you want to be in the college football playoff discussion? Which is he?

Id imagine this is about the least exciting hire Cohen could make without receiving blowback. I believe Summerall could do well and I hope he does, but thats my point. There's just as much a chance that he could bomb it. Im gonna pull for Auburns HC no matter what but this crossing our fingers and hoping we get lucky THIS time has gotten old. Im gonna expect 5-6 wins next year until I see otherwise unless we bring in an Elite QB and I see him play like it for Auburn. I really miss days when Auburn found ways to win, not new ways to lose.
Oh well. Ive been telling my wife Im not going to keep letting Auburn football dictate the mood of our weekends in the fall anyways

I don't know shite, but what I read. Everything I've read suggests that's the case. A lot of people, who use their bullshite opinions to make money, claim the guy is next.

I expect that a good football coach can compete for and win the SEC Championship and National Championship alt Auburn.
I expect the playoffs will go to 16 teams sooner than later and, when that happens, a 9-win SEC team will be on the bubble to get in. And sometimes will.
Is Sumrall a good football coach? Can he have us in contention for (and sometimes winning) the SEC and National Championships? I don’t know. The truth is, as much as I think I know about football, I’m probably not qualified to make that determination. Moreover, I don’t think anyone, no matter how knowledgeable, can guarantee that a given coach will meet such expectations.
Sumrall has a solid track record as a head coach. For now, I’m gonna get behind him, feel good, and expect success.
Of course, 3-4 years from now, I may feel very differently. That could be the case no matter who Auburn hired.
Who would you prefer?

So you think it should be Kiffin who has already turned us down before?
Maybe we should get Andy Reid?
Maybe we should make a run at Ryan Day?

He flat out admits his team is average (and stats support it)

I do like the honesty. It is better than "close"

Sounds great but for someone looking for an edge his truth hurts.

Yes I think he will compete for championships at Auburn and possibly within a few years. Of course I thought that of Hugh Freeze 3 years ago, so I’m certainly no expert at predicting football coaches success or lack thereof.

What if AU opened the checkbook to a Dan Lanning and said name your price? How would you feel?

Everyone would say do it, but Lanning has a blank check for NIL because Knight wants a 'ship. Lanning isn't leaving Oregon.

We don’t have enough money to pull Lanning without it seriously cutting into NIL funds.

I just hope they are ready to spend big on a QB. We don't have the guy on the roster right now to win games next year. If not then nothing else will matter.

being honest doesn't mean shite if things don't change. Freeze was the polar opposite of Gus "We had a good week of practice" Malzhan. His honesty meant nothing after awhile because the results were horrible. If he's the guy I don't care what he says.... just win.
