Here's another ridiculous possibility that Cohen has gotten us into. If Sumrall bails and it is indeed because Cohen promised Durkin he would be retained, then what? Any potential candidate is going to want the Durkin situation resolved before considering the job because they all now know the dynamic that exists. On the flip side, if you are Cohen and it cripples your coaching search, do you renege on your promise to Durkin? What kind of dumbass financial commitment have you made to the guy and can you even get rid of him?

It came out that when we offered Sumrall the job, we refused to grant him the autonomy to choose his own staff. Meanwhile, UF has offered him complete autonomy and about $2 million higher salary than we did. The general consensus is that he is Gainesville bound. Cohen's backup plan consisted of 1 man: Durkin.

Nah, we're melting because it's looking like we are going to hire Durkin, making it a certainty we'll be doing this again in a couple years. Majority of us don't think Sumrall is some can't miss hire, just know Durkin would be a hot mess.
It would be hilarious watching them try and spin a Durkin hire if he loses tomorrow, particularly if the defense looks weak again, if it wasn't happening to my alma mater. Hopefully we are all getting annoyed for no reason and they get smart enough to not try and force a stupid hire on us.

Yeah if we lose this is going to look horrible. For the sake of the hire I almost hope it happens. However, knocking bama out of the CFP is just too sweet to pass up. I’m just praying Cohen can pull off Sumrall or someone exciting.
