This is new info. Please elaborate on why or how a coach was shopping himself to a school weeks before the previous coach was fired.. that’s a pretty big accusation to make

Hugh Freeze was obviously toast weeks before he was officially fired. He simply wasn't going to turn it around, which means that Cohen and company would have already started pre-planning. Pre-planning entails talking to reps for potential candidates.

He’s probably referring to a Nathan King post on 247 soon after Freeze was let go. Essentially it said that Sumrall’s folks had been positioning himself for the Auburn job well before Freeze was let go.

If you go back 6 weeks ago, Auburn was sitting at .500 with a 4-4 record, including a controversial loss to OU as well as close losses to aTm and UGA.. and the statement was Sumrall was actively shopping himself to AU, implying he was doing the reaching out, not the other way around.

Thanks for the clarification

It was rumored/discussed on different boards prior to the Mizzou game I believe it was that representatives from his camp had already reached out to us about interest in coming to AU if there was going to be an opening.

Correct. The implication from different beat writers was that Sumrall camp reached out to us first, prior to Freeze being let go.

Appreciate the info. I’m not trying to be that GUY. We’ve been burned so many times with these searches in the past, so I’m treating this one with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Sumrall is a former DC so he should be able to hire a good P4 OC.

After seeing Deuce Knight last Saturday, it would be beyond stupid if the hire didn't include offensive / QB coaching with proven performance and experience - whoever and however.

Yep he needs some good QB coaching. Still very raw but man what a skillset to be able to work with.

We aren't waiting on Summral and he isn't waiting on Ole Miss. Just waiting for the season to end (Saturday) out of respect to Durkin and the efforts towards the IB. I imagine Sunday or Monday we will announce Summral.

I guess we can start going through the 5 stages of grief now and get a head start.

This and Jason Caldwell has said the same. Caldwell isn't a click baiter. If he says some thing you can pretty much take it to the bank

What have some of y'all been doing then if it wasn't part of this?

If it's not Drink or Durkin, I'm throwing a party.

You guys think Bama actually lets DeBoer go if they lose the iron bowl and don't make the playoffs

Though I'd prefer Sunday morning by noon

Yep. The thing that continues to worry me is that Caldwell is still mentioning Lea being on the short list. That would be an absolutely miserable hire in my eyes.
