Count me in the "you've got to be kidding me" crowd if we hire Jimbo over Petrino. Florida St. loses to mediocre teams and haas to hold on to beat a 6-6 Ga. Tech team. Give me a break.
It's my strong opinion that we wouldn't compete for championships under Fisher.

Why is Kirby interviewing a surprise? His name has been on the list from the get go.

I think it's just panic setting in because the decision is getting closer.

I wouldn't mind him
Petrino is in a class of his own (disagree about Patterson), but if we chose not to hire him for "moral" reasons, then Jimbo, Smart, Patterson, Malzahn... Whatever.

His record of success at schools that have not previously enjoyed 10+ win seasons is uncanny. Also, I don't think he is as risky as people think because he knows AU is his last shot in the SEC

Paul Petrino (Bobby's brother) was just named Idaho's Head Coach. So he's out as BP's OC.

No big deal. Bobby ran the offense at Ark. The difference between last year and this year with their offense proves that.
As for those worried about interviewing Smart, why? It's just an interview.

I'd rather hire Smart than Gus or Strong

Agree on the Strong bidness 100%
Probably Gus too, since I'd rather have a defensive head coach than an offensive head coach. Dunno though, I really like Malzahn.

Here's the big question about Smart...
Does he bring the 3-4 with him? THAT could be problematic.

Don't know about the search but do know someone that is family friends with Smart and the 3-4 is Kirby's defense too so yes he would bring it.

1.a Smart
1.b Strong
17. Malzahn
Smart does a lot more with that defense than people realize. It isn't just Saban as Dcoordinator and Smart as puppet.

Of course, now that I think about it, a 3-4 might not be too bad. If someone could turn Big Jeff into an actual lineman and put him at nose tackle, we're looking at something like this:
Lemonier-Whittaker-Ford
Toney-McKinzy-Foster-Frost
Heck of a talent pool, but that's 3 true freshman and a RS sophomore behind a full senior D line.
ETA: The more I think about it, the more I'm really starting to like this idea... Muschamp took his lumps his first year, but look how that turned out.

Lemonier and Ford are too small for 34 linemen...
