UCF played a horrible schedule. Have a respectable schedule and they would have earned their right to the playoffs.

Glad we can agree that it is simply subjective and while we have an opinion it is just that, an opinion.

In 5 years we’ve had 10 different teams in the CFP.

Alabama x 5
Clemson x 4
Oklahoma x 3
Ohio State x 2
Oregon, FSU, UW, UGA, ND, Sparty x 1

Quick reference of the past teams.

Looks like OSU and Clemson are in excellent position to add to their appearances. Bama is in decent shape and I’m guessing LSU gets its first which essentially just adds to the one-offs at the bottom

We kinda have two systems. 4 teams battle for 3 spots and the rest of college football competes for the remaining one

If not 8, playoff of 16? You think number 16 (2 loss Notre Dame)

I'm on the 8 train. And I think there are only 3 teams this year that could win a 3 game playoff over successive weeks but still think 4-8 will likely deserve that chance based on resumes.

Yeah. If one positive comes from this new format, it is highlighting unconscious bias and disparity in CFB. I do think it will be a positive change in the end.

From 2015-2017 maybe the case.

Wasn't really the case those years either.

In 2015 bama lost to Ole Miss.

In 2016 Clemson lost to Pitt

In 2017 bama lost to Auburn and Syracuse

What that tells us is if you don't use an eye test and you create criteria that is objective in nature a true champion can be determined. Nobody cares who anyone thinks is "best".

Me too. That way the Committee doesn't look so bad when it tries to hard to fit Alabama into that #4 spot even when they don't deserve it.

The only sad thing about going to 8 is that Auburn STILL won't find a way to make it in, as they seem to find a way under Gus to lose 2-3 games by the end of the year that seems to put them at 10+ rankings.

Don't blame the playoff, blame frickface Gus for dropping two games early in 2017. If he had generated just a little offense versus Clemson or not coached with his foot on brake against LSU, we are in the playoff.

Did you miss “In a playoff environment”

When teams don’t get up for games, obviously anything can happen.

I'm just gonna say it, win out and we are in the playoff.

More I look at it I really think we would get in.

That said, we are going 8-4.

That's the thing about CFB every game should be a playoff environment, until you create a system that renders that reality void.

I agree but does it really matter if it doesn't change injuries and fatigue?

By the end of 2017 we weren't anything close to a CFP-level team. We fell off a cliff.

That’s it. No real parity.

That's my point: we can't get parity with the current system.

If kids are going to the bigger schools to go to the playoffs, they are only going to a handful of places. If the field is expanded, then it would expand the number of places recruits would potentially commit.

. Auburn was obviously one of the four best teams in 2017, yet no invite.

Unfortunately for us, that argument would be stronger had we not lost to UCF in the bowl game.
