UCF played a horrible schedule. Have a respectable schedule and they would have earned their right to the playoffs.

Their wins that year are comparable to Bamas wins this year. His point is correct. FBS is the only sport on the planet that uses an eye test for their championship. It is laughable

I said this in a thread on the rant, but the basketball games where smaller brand schools routinely beat bigger brand schools (like Evansville over UK) is a result of a system where there are 68 playoff slots and a lot of success is defined by making the tourney. The distribution of talent is broader. In football the distribution of talent is highly concentrated within 5 or 6 teams and everyone else is left sucking hind tit. It is indeed broken and Collwge Football has got to either broaden to 16 teams or go back to a BCS type format to keep interest.

Has it? There is no way to know without actually playing games on a field. Any other option is subjective.

Then make it 16 teams, but with 4 they’ve gotten right

Bama’s lone win in aTm is far superior to anybody they played that year. They aren’t even in the playoff yet and may not make it in.

8 teams would be perfect. Conference champs plus two wildcards.

Y’all: Bama didn’t earn it!!!

Me: Neither did UCF.

Y’all: That’s your opinion, man. We aren’t sure what criteria should be used.

No.

Every other collegiate sport has a legitimate playoff. D2 and D3 both have a football playoff to determine their champions. I hadn't realized it until the other poster pointed it out, but with the current top heavy system, it concentrates all the talent at a handful of schools that have a chance at the playoffs. The current system is broken. It's time to fix it.

If 8 isn’t perfect, what is perfect?

I agree with it being so heavy at the top which makes anything above 8 seem redundant and pointless. In a playoff environment, there are maybe one or two teams that can defeat Clemson or Bama. That’s it. No real parity.

From 2015-2017 maybe the case. But I don't really think that's the case this year or in most of college football history.

I am of the opinion there needs to be a shift in conference's and divisions as well. There needs to be more balance in the regular season, then an 8 team playoff. It would elevate the sport.

If not 8, playoff of 16? You think number 16 (2 loss Notre Dame) survives every playoff round and then beats Clemson? Let’s not forget the weeding out process of attrition after consecutive tough games that can negatively affect teams with less depth. See Auburn 2017.

Agree. Easiest way to the playoffs right now is easy schedule it seems.
