He's good enough to start at the 3 next year in competition with CBM. Love this early signing because it will make fill-ins easier in portal season. Need 4's and 5's. Should be just about set at the 1-3.

Great day for basketball. Still like where the team is right now. We will compete with anyone if we continue to improve.

Officially kills my hopes that we would wake up and actually try to recruit Derrion Reid, but hey who needs a 5*F when you can sign a raw 4* F instead who is worse at every aspect of the game.
One day Bruce will wake up and we will have a roster capable of competing for SEC titles again and be able to close out games instead of losing like last night.
We we lucky Holloway carried us. To answer the question about him leaving early though...Not a chance. Better odds that he stays 3 or 4 years. If Harper, Brown, and now Sharife can't make it then Holloway probably won't either strictly because of his size. Him leaving early would be a horrible decision.

Just because we aren’t in it for a recruit doesn’t mean we didn’t try to recruit them. Sometimes recruits just aren’t interested in a school.
FYI Howard was very highly rated and then made the mistake of going to Donda. Since leaving he’s done well in the AAU circuit.

quote:You're right, which is why I don't say it about every recruit. I'm not saying we never made a phone call or anything, but no real effort was put in and he's going to sign with either UGA or Bama (Unless something last minute changes). He's a better version of Chuma at the same age.

I won't be shocked if Howard ends up like Westry.

I like our current roster quite a bit, thank you. Also.. my comment wasn’t about whether I think Aden should or shouldn’t stay. I’m telling I think he will not hang around at AU.

You being so hung up on this Reid thing is odd. He didn’t want to come to AU

So just to make sure I get all this correct, you are saying:
1. Because one 5* player was not "actually" recruited, you think we don't "actually try" to recruit any 5 star players?
2. Bruce is and has been asleep at the wheel when it comes to recruiting?
3. We do not have a roster than can compete for the SEC title this year?
4. We do not have a roster that can close out games this year?
5. Aden, a McDonald's All American should stay 3-4 years in college ball because he "probably" won't make it in the pros?

Yeah there is an unfortunate list of high end 5 star guys who have turned us down the last couple of years very publicly. I’m sure Bruce would love to roster mostly 5 stars if he could lol.

Still in pain over missing out on Flory. The upcoming offseason could have been so much simpler.

Found this over on the OT board.

I've already covered this. We recruit undersized 5 star guards better than anyone in the country. I wish they we're bigger, but I'm not complaining about that. Outside of Jabari and Walker we have wiffed on elite HS F and C and had to dip down a level to find guys. Bruce says it part of the plan.. I don't know that it is, and even if it is I think its a bad plan and one of the reasons we lost last night. My complaint isn't just about not recruiting Reid, but its about not recruiting future NBA talent. I don't see the ceiling you all see with this team. If it wasn't for Aden we would have got blown out.
And I know we didn't recruit Reid. There's no guesswork going on. When he's dropping 15 and 5 assist against us you'll see why I wanted him.
I'm not going to go into it every week though, so don't worry about having to hear it all the time. After we get into SEC play though either feel free to call me out on my bad take or I will remind everyone what I've been saying all along.

Thank you for the hard hitting analysis.

In previous posts you implied we weren't even pursuing elite talent.

Yeah I guess I'm fine settling for guys like Johni Broome? Maybe that's just me tho
You don't have to sell me on Reid. I can see that he's a great prospect. We just aren't going to be in on every player so it's a weird launching point for your critique.

Wtf are you talking about man? Bruce has been almost exclusively recruiting 5 stars the past two years since the transfer portal became a thing. He’s missed on most because that’s what happens to every team not named Duke who is focusing on the top 30 players. You hit on some and miss on most.
Jalen Green, Scoot Henderson, Jakobe Walter, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper are all recent examples of NBA sized guards that he’s gone after.
It’s not that he only wants to take undersized guards. It’s that, like you said, he’s the best in the country at getting the guards that are 6’1 and under because of the success he’s had with them.

This doesn’t make sense. If you miss on the elite, NBA talent players (which you also said he doesn’t recruit) who else are you supposed to go for? I’d much rather us take a chance in the portal than take a chance on a Peyton Marshall level recruit just because we missed on the elite guys.

I love the people overreacting to a season opening loss to a tourney team in South Dakota. That L does absolutely nothing to our overall schedule strength in the end. Good learning experience, certainly wish we could have closed out the game a lot better.
My biggest disappointment is once again J Will. The guy was a ghost on the floor the whole night. He just doesn’t seem to take that next step. Really hoping to get more out of him this year.

quote:You are correct here. I should have said landing NBA talent instead of recruiting. We have recruited and missed many of them as the rest of that post stated.
