Looks like TAMU could have a new starting qb for our game on Saturday... nick starkel (who got hurt vs UCLA) came in after Kellen Mond got injured in the 4th quarter (appeared to be a head injury after a MSU late hit). Starkel threw a pick 6, but later connected on a long TD pass.

Starkel (who won the job in fall camp) appears to be athletic, but isn’t near the running threat of Mond. State was playing a very soft zone late in the game, which helped out starkel.

Mond was really struggling anyway, but the head injury really forced sumlin’s hand.

I'd rather play starkle than mond.

I tend to agree, but can see both sides... imo, there was a really good chance A&M made the change to Starkel anyway, considering Mond was really struggling passing lately. Mond was something like 8-26 last night.

Monds passing numbers the last two games is absolutely awful

Hopefully A&M laying an egg and the early start next week will cause their fans to not show out as usual. Gus generally does a good job following a bye week, so I'm thinking we get off to a fast start. I'm sure we'll dick around and slowly let them back in the game but I don't see us choking. 38-20 kind of game, similar to MSU last year.

Im not usually cocky when playing A&M but they do not match up well against us
this year at all. If we dont win this game by 15 points or more, I will be very shocked. We would have to totally lay a egg for them to beat us

I see this game being a 42-21 type game.

ATM has quit. Gus will try and go balls deep and keep his job. Arky part Deux.

This game is all about offensive play calling.

The fundamentals (blocking and tackling) come way before this.

The road team has won this game every year since Texas A&M joined the SEC.

Blocking is infinitely more difficult when the defense knows what you are doing. Playcalling will be the key. Defense will be good enough.

Mond was the only thing that worried me about this game. We will break starkel. Then next week we find out the truth.

I have the same feeling about this game as I did for the LSU game, TAMU is another team Gus chokes against.

Yea, not having the run threat out of the QB position makes me feel better. And after watching the new kid throw the ball last week, things should be easier. He really looks at his targets.. I could see them getting some pass plays but we would also pick off a bunch of them.

TAM has got some good push from their defensive line and do well rushing the passer. Hopefully, we can see if Stidham has learned anything.

I feel positive coming off the bye week. My liver got a break, I saved a few bucks and ready to do battle again

The concern for Auburn is that Starkel comes out and lights it up through the air... it’s already pretty clear he’s a better passer than Mond (beat him out in fall camp, looked better on Saturday), and there’s very little film on the guy to know exactly what he’s capable of.

We also know from past experience that the spread offense with a short/controlled passing game can give our defense fits... see last year’s games vs TAMU and Ole Miss. it neutralizes our strength on defense — the DL.

It all depends on TAMU's ability to redirect their offense back to that short passing game.

I don't see us running away with this, although it's possible. I expect it to be more like 30-14 or something like that. We will probably run the ball even more than usual (even though we still need work on our own passing offense). Gustav knows he needs to win this one so he'll play it close to the vest, which seems to be what he thinks will work (even though if often doesn't - see LSU earlier this year).

I actually would have preferred to face Mond. Starkel can actually pass which means they can get the ball to Kirk. When Mond was playing Kirk was pretty much a non-factor when they had the ball.

I agree with that... I was surprised at how bad TAMUs offense has been over the last month or so... it’s the opposite of what you’d think, given a young qb with a bunch of upside gaining more and more experience.

I could see a scenario where Starkel makes their offense click more than they have been lately... they’ve got weapons at WR and RB. The OL has been pretty bad though.

This game scares me to death.

SHOULD we win this game? Of course we should.

But, then again, we SHOULD have won all of our games so far over the years against TAMU excepting for maybe one. And we haven't.

I don't disagree with you, but its fricked up that Gus doesn't have that same attitude when it comes to... you know... LSU.

Or UGA.

(Not gonna say Bama because rare has been that opportunity.)

Yeah in 14, Kenny Hill started hot then fizzled out, then that other guy (can’t remember his name I think Jake something) started against us and the decline of Gus began when they beat us. Hopefully Starkel isn’t a spark, but I do know our D is 100 times better than it was in 14.
