I clearly said there aren’t a lot of OT’s that aren’t susceptible to getting beat in 1v1 isolation. That is not really a debatable statement. I believe PFF says in any given year, there are only about 10-15 OT’s that grade out consistently 80.0 or better in true pass plays.
I’ve also not even argued that either of them are going to be good in pass protection. Just that Pink’s main criticism of them, is the same one that can be used for the overwhelming majority of OT’s. So, without a reference to the magnitude of how often they get beat, it’s a very hard statement to actually qualify.

Kyle is saying on his pod that they went impromptu 1 vs 1 today and he said both the OL and DL were winning some battles against each other. OL getting better? DL sucks? Who knows? Byrum burned the D for about a 70 yd TD to Koger.

The good OTs. The ones we want. They are not susceptible to getting beat in pass pro. The other OTs. The OTs that cannot hear. The OTs that cannot land a starting job at tackle so they go to guard. Yeah they probably suck at pass protection. Or are at least really good at moving bodies in the running attack but too slow in pass protection. Of course, we are not that great at moving bodies around either.

Simmons got a PFF pass protection grade of 19% against Louisville.

He had a bad game against Louisville, for the season, including that game, his overall PFF was pretty good. Its all a question mark until they get on the field but I wouldnt let one game be judgement......

He played his season inside a JMU schedule against JMU caliber opponents.
He is going up two levels. The rest from USF are going up one level.
His 19% against Louisville is very concerning.

I was enjoying the clever turn of phrase, but I should have expounded my question. Does Pink do a pod? I'm not familiar with all the Auburn pod folks out there yet. I don't like, I think they are, the 247 guys with Jason Caldwell from the old ITAT. Boring. Watching paint dry. Mike G is ok but don't listen much. The Barn and Locked on folks I've listened to the most. I didn't think I would like Brad Law, but he may be my favorite. I've started to dive into this season harder than I have since before COVID. I'm emerging from the malaise.

I think he's done well, just inconsistent. Same with Autry, but both guys are doing well. My guess is Sigler and Walker will be our starting interior guys with those two backing them up/rotating in depending on offense we are playing.

In all seriousness, it does make one wonder. Cignetti brought 13 players from JMU when he went to Indiana. When Simmons hit the portal one would have thought Indiana would be a choice and he didnt go. Jo Simmons dad played college ball......at Indiana.
Maybe the NIL wasnt there or he saw the opportunity to start at Auburn, who knows.
