Three's and even lay up's weren't there.

I can live with a poor shooting night. Layups are a harder pill to swallow. What we saw on defense was awful. Not sure if these guys think they’re hot stuff because they played with Baylor for a half or what, but that seemed completely uninterested in playing tonight.

Defense and rebounding was horrible. You can’t give up 91 points to this trash arse team at home.

Yep. Uga shot well but it’s because most were layups and open threes. In the second half they gave up on the outside shot and just played iso ball. We had no answer. Bad performance all around. Guys didn’t seem to want it and Bruce never adjusted.

Georgia beats Auburn 91-86. Bulldogs finished with 24 layups, 2 dunks and 13 offensive rebounds. Tigers lackluster on both ends.
Per BMatt, yikes, 52 points in layups and dunks.

quote:I feel like we said the same in 2016 and 2017. Young teams take a long time to learn how to defend for a full 40 minutes and Pearl’s teams have never defended that well.
This team has no clue how to defend.
We came into this one 13th in the league in defensive scoring so I’m not surprised at the outcome.

I didnt watch tonight. Still working. How the hell did they lose to UGA.

It was a bad performance. Hope they learn from it.

I jinxed it. I told my son that "no way we lose to GA, they suck."

Honestly looked like the first time all year the team realized they didn't have anything to play for.

Agreed, and it was sad to see that kind of effort coming from our squad. Hopefully it was just exhaustion from the intensity of last week’s games.

Exhaustion had nothing to do with it. These guys are young and we are playing 10 guys for pete's sake.
No, this was just a young team that didn't put forth the defensive effort it was going to take to beat GA.
Once Ga saw they could dribble drive around our guards (as Pearl alluded to), then they kept doing it till we stopped them.
And we still don't remember how to block out weak side offensive rebounds. How many times did we force an errant shot, and standing around not blocking out, a Ga guy found a gap and came in and rebounded it or simply one handed it and stuffed it, while we stood around.
This team is similar like the 2017-18 team in its poor inconsistent defense.
We let an avg team beat us bc of that...

We are good on an individual level. We are not good in team concepts. We don’t play good team defense. Unless it’s a called play we don’t play good team offense. Have actually stepped back some since Cooper started playing. We at least would swing ball around the outside when Powell was in. We don’t backside rebound well. We aren’t good in man we are average. We are better in zone but Bruce wants them to learn man.
At the end of the day we just aren’t as good as we think we are. That goes for players and Fans.
Jamal has gone missing for like a month now. 1 for 6 has turned into a good night for him. The rest of the starters are so up and down we knew that with a young team but Jamal and Flanigan got a good bit of minutes last year. They should be the leaders.
Not doom and gloom just reality of the situation. I had hoped we would be better in transition and on defense.

This has been the biggest and most disappointing thing for me recently. He's the oldest guy on the team. He's supposed to be our spot up shooter and hasn't made anything, including free throws. You can tell he is a player that let's his offense dictate how he plays on defense, meaning if he is having an off night shooting it effects his effort on defense. Honestly, I would probably rather keep Franklin than Jamal if there has to be attrition at the end of the season.

I’m not for letting anyone go but sometimes you have to. Unless Scoot reclassify’s I think we are good on numbers. Between Jamal and Franklin you have to think it would be Franklin because we have so many forwards. Franklin definitely has some hops but we are short on shooters. Maybe Jamal is just being asked to do more then he can do.

I think so too, and the only way I see him reclassifying is if Cooper leaves so that would even out.

Agree here too. We’ve got a ton of guys that can play 3-5 and that number will grow next year with Jabari. We need guys that can shoot. Jamal has shown the ability to be that guy. I feel better about him getting back to that point than I do about Franklin developing enough to take away minutes from the rest of those guys.
I think Jamal’s best fit is coming off the bench. Hopefully Powell is squared away next year and Alexander comes in and shoots like most think he can.

He seems to be working hard, but at this point you wonder if he'll become the type of shooter we need him to be.

Jamal led the team last year which wasn’t a good shooting team but think he’s dipped down this year some. He’s gotten better defensively but is still a liability especially trying to guard quick 2 guards or strong 3’s. He’s a jump shooter and that’s it. When he’s on he’s on and gives us what we need but shouldn’t be a starter but we are a poor shooting team again this year. Jabari will be bigger and stronger Thor. Powell we know can shoot. Alexander is said to be a good shooter but you never know until game time. So development of Moore, Jaylin, Thor will be huge going forward. That’s just on the offensive end. Defense to be great is a long long way off.
