Despite his success, Bruce has lost a LOT of big time recruiting battles lately. I am not complaining, we are better than we have ever been before and are still relevant.

Agree on both points. Another board mentioned it but maybe we already know the punishment and being forthcoming with the recruits.

If this is from the Persons deal why would get more punishment? Seems we paid a pretty stiff price. Fired the coach, benched the players for a year, limited recruiting. Unless there is more to it nothing Chuck was doing was beneficial to AU so why such harsh take? Because of Bruce’s past? Beating the bell Cow (UK) to much? The NCAA has become a complete cluster and every major school and conference that can make it on their own should just leave a s simplify the rules for recruitment and eligibility and be done with the NCAA. They need us not the other way around. Let the conf commissioners sort out the leadership.

There's some talk that JD Davidson could very well end up in the G League, and if that's the case, then perhaps it's a reason why we may have backed off in the end.

Don't we have a limited amount of scholarships to.give as well? I think our 2022 recruiting will be more important than the 2021 class. Don't get me wrong, it would've been nice to get this guy, but it just doesn't look like a whole lot is riding on it with our program.

Agreed. We have been paying a price for this indirectly and directly for 3 full seasons. We have been lumped into larger schemes/corruption via the press ad nauseum, suspended multiple players until the NCAA said "ok, that's enough" and taken many recruiting lumps.

We definitely represent a case where we have a legitimate reason to submit "time served" as a defense from any further punishment.

There's a case to be made we have paid a bigger price than anyone tied to the FBI sting thus far even though we derived zero benefit from Chuck's actions.

I think those reasons are a fallback excuse.

JD I feel needs a year of school, according to other evaluators too, so he will play Bama one year.

If we had a scholarship issue, Auburn wouldn't have pursued him. You always find room for a top 5* player.

They are. We didn't stop pursuing him for fear of the G-League. That's not to say the G-League isn't a real possibility for him. We just got beat on this one.

The scholarship thing doesn't make sense either. We only have room for 2 this class (I think), but if he were going to go to the G-League we would know before he signed anyway.

We wanted him and had room for him. Oats just most likely sold him on being guaranteed the PG spot there, where here he most likely plays the 2 or a combo role.

THats the way I saw it.

I was hoping he felt the SG spot was more where he needs to practice and develop his skills.

But if his measureables say his way to get to the NBA is as a PG, then Alabama had a better opening than us.

And add in his family's Bama love, and his AAU/Nike involvement, then all of that just pushed him to the Tide.

Unfortunately.

Tipton Edits
@TiptonEdits
2021 five-star Jabari Smith will announce his college decision this Friday, he tells me.

Choosing between: Georgia, Georgia Tech, UNC, Tennessee, Auburn, & LSU.

That’s the guy at the top of my list. I would love to see Bruce work his magic with a guy that big and athletic that can shoot.

Any idea on where Jabari is leaning? I know it was AU at one point but I know family relation to LSU is strong as well. If Wade pulls another stud in I say F the ncaa and do whatever we want.

No clue. I feel like last I read from the rivals guys was that their best guess were that us and LSU were at the top. UGA leads futurecasts. If he ends up there I will just laugh.

The optimist in me hopes Jabari already knows where he wants to go and it’s Auburn, and the coaching staff asked him to announce since JD chose bama.

If we get him (big if), he turns us into a fun team. I say snag a solid SG/CG and call the class a win.

Looking at Branham’s track history on Crystal balls, he seems to like to wait until 3-4 days out to make a final prediction. He is 100% this year and 52 out of 53 all time
