Agree. We played them as well as any AU team has up here. And KY was on a hot streak.

I just don't care for posters to blame 'bad coaching' in 1 game, after this team bc of 'good' coaching exceeded their win total and had a chance going into the last week of games at winning even an SEC title after all they lost last year.

I will say that if Pearl really thought bc of it being in RUpp that we would not get the foul calls if we tried to go to the basket more, so the game plan was to do more outside shooting. I don't understand that predetermined logic knowing our biggest weakness is 3 pt shooting. I thought 34 3's was way too many.

MAybe I misunderstood Pearl's comments after the game...

I’m sure his comments were at least partly gamesmanship.

He knows that shooting 3s is a weakness. But he also knew that winning up there would require a feat and doing something unexpected. I don’t think it’s a bad gamble to try to win on something Kentucky doesn’t expect. This game was like playing with house money.

With Wiley in foul trouble early, we probably had to lean on 3s more.

Out rebounded, more turnovers, missed free throws. Better execution could have won the game.

Danjel fouling quickley on a breakaway was dumb. Guy is almost the best free throw shooter in the country. Danjel being in foul trouble hurt the team. Lot of little things like that happened yesterday too.

What is the thought process of not attacking the basket most of the game and just slinging 3's? Why is this trend continuing?

This is bad coaching, plain and simple. This team should not have the freedom to just run down and sling a 3.

He is asking them to attack the basket more but Coach Pearl does not tell players not to take any shots. He wants his teams to play loose and be aggressive. Sometimes it will cost us but I prefer his method to the overly structured offenses of coaches like Frank Martin. The results I believe speak for themselves. We went through a stretch last year where way too many guys were trying to play hero ball. Instead of restricting freedom or mandating a certain number of passes he allowed us to play through it and the end result is the greatest run in Auburn basketball history.

Amen. I've been preaching this to Pearl critics for years.

Another aspect of it is that it's also easy to see why it helps him so much in recruiting. He wants players to become the best version of themselves and more often than not he gets them there.

Kentucky is better arguably at every position and was playing at home highly motived. That's the type of L you're going to take in college bball. We played hard so I'm not mad. Got to turn back up on the rebounding and getting to the line now that Okoro is back. That's our ticket to the round of 32 and further. We damn sure ain't going to outshoot or hold anyone in check

Palm has us as a 5 seed in EAST against #12 ETSU, with Penn St #4 and SDSU #1.

Lunardi has us as the same but Mich St as the #4 and UCLA the #12. yikes!!!!

Nightmare matchup for us. Cassius Winston one of the best guards in the country, they are great defensively and great rebounding. They also have a big that can bang with Wiley. Frick that noise.

MSU is going to be a match-up nightmare for anybody. They have a ton of experience, one of the best guards in the country, a HOF coach with a history of deep runs in March, and are peaking at the right time. Nobody wants to see them in their bracket. I think they will move up to a 3-seed by tournament time though.

Agreed. I don't really want to see any elite guards in round 1 or 2 if possible. I could actually see Samir and Jvon punching above their weight class a bit though if we can get through the first 2 rounds and could see them actually delivering in the sweet 16 and beyond.. they are the type guys who can kinda play out of their mind a little when their confidence gets going.

What they did to Maryland on Saturday was impressive... controlled the game from the tip... never really let them have a chance to get back in.

Bought tickets to the game in Knoxville this weekend. I’ve seen Thompson-Boling Arena during a football weekend but I’m excited to see what a Tennessee basketball game is like

247 sports did an interview with Greg Brown

Some notes-

if Shaka Smart keeps his job, Brown is probably headed to Texas.

Brown may not commit until late April.

Coach Cal and Kentucky’s main selling point is they can get him ready for the NBA.

Brown loves that the Memphis’ coaching staff is comprised of former NBA stars.

Brown says he has best relationships with Smart and Pearl.

Where Jalen Green goes probably won’t factor into his decision although they have talked about what it would be like to team up.

God, Texas Tech sucks arse. Hope they lose out and miss the tournament. If you want to see a way more hair pulling offense than Auburn, watch TT.

That may be the case but Shaka Smart is the HC at Texas

And TT just laid another egg on Saturday at home to put Texas back on the bubble and possibly saving Smart's job, thus locking up Greg Brown...
