It’s more like 9 1/2 deep. Johnson’s minutes are going down. He’s averaging 1 shot a game and his D is still weak(could not guard well last night, got shaked and baked out of his sneakers)
Yea, I've been disappointed in his production. I'm sure he has been as well. He feels like he should be the spot up 3 guy, but can't hit that shot consistently.

I think the 'experience' factor that Johnson had that the other freshman didn't is beginning to lose it's value. His 3-point shot hasn't been nearly as consistent lately either. I would love to see him go on a run in one of these last games though.

BP brings him nearly every time we are in an offensive drought and it never takes. Might not see him come tourney time.
It's been 10 games since he made a 3. (Iowa State)

If we can get a 4 seed in the bracket with SD St or Dayton as a 1, I’ll take it. Otherwise, I’d rather get a 6 seed.
I think the idea here is just to avoid the 1 seed as long as possible. There are not many elite teams this year so the idea is, there wouldn’t be a big gap between us and any 2 or 3 seed we get in the second round or sweet 16. The difference is that first round game. Getting a weak 13 seed two years ago got us a first round win when we were reeling as a team. Getting the best 12 seed last year almost cost us an early exit with one of our best teams ever. Based on that I’ll take the 4 seed any day.
I like the direction this team is heading though. We are finding some legit players of the bench. Cambridge is becoming our best spot up 3 point shooter and Jaylin is looking like the spark off the bench that Spencer and Dunbar brought last year. We need Purifoy and McLemore to find their shots again, Okoro to get back to 100% game shape, and then find a little chemistry down the stretch. We have 3-6 games to get it sorted out and we could hit the tourney peaking again, which would be a lot of fun. All starts this Saturday.

I agree, when we are doing all the little things Pearl wants...defense, rebounding, and driving to the basket we are a fairly well rounded team, outside of the weak 3 pt shooting.
And I agree too that it is good to see the bench settling down and playing and contributing especially on offense.
The key is now, can these bench guys especially Cambridge from the outside and now J Williams on the inside, score and contribute away from Auburn Arena? We only have 1 more home game then all the rest especially the SECT and the NCAAs will be on neutral floors.
it's critical they play well now on the road. They have not done that in the past...

We actually played some of our best ball of the season on neutral floors though.
Beat two decent teams in NY by double digits.

that's a long long time ago for a reference, but i understand.
I expect teams, especially in the SEC to know how to play us better on D, when we get in the tournament.
And I did not know how long J Johnson has gone without a 3. That's not good for him.
And his weak D is only going to keep him out that much more unless we have foul trouble.
If Pearl is looking for points, it looks now like J williams is now providing it, when the sub guards cannot get us points. And he seems very active in different spots on the floor unlike Purifoy who only seems to shoot the 3.
But Purifoy is actually playing better D, but still no help from outside. Maybe he only likes it now when we get in tournament mode. :)

I was actually surprised with how J Williams looked last night shooting that step back last night. It looked fluid to me, like there is real potential with his shooting ability. We might have ourselves a real talent there.

We are currently visiting Jalen Green. 247 doesn’t know yet which of our coaches are there right now.

Kermit Davis singled out praise for Doughty:
Silky smooth. but frustrating player behind the arc sometimes, but he deserves the praise.

I love Samir and his toughness throughout the game,” Davis said. “We couldn’t keep him out of the paint. He has just made so many winning plays down the stretch during this SEC year.”

It’s a small world when you think about Pearl calling Will Wade asking him if he believed Samir could play in the SEC while we were recruiting him

Yeah, he is smooth and while he sometimes stumbles, bumbles, and looks like he's ready to fall down, here he comes with his scoop lay in, or his slant bank. How he does it amazes me.
He can get lost in their some time, but he is as good as an all-round player you can expect from a guard.
And some of our posters think he is average. Every coach in the SEC would love to have Samir.

I love Samir I just think he's yet to figure out that he's the lynchpin for the team and that if he's not leading it it's unlikely anyone else will.
Frequently he picks up the banner and runs with it at the end of games, but I wish he'd take that on a bit more consistently. Maybe he will in the tournaments. I think him doing so (or someone else coming from left field and doing it) is the only realistic chance to make any sort of run.

Someone here last year said he plays like he’s still playing for a non- power 5 Automatic Qualifier team in the NCAAt. That has stuck with me since then. In a lot of ways I still think the poster is correct.

jerome allen gets a 15 year show cause from NCAA for the bribery at Penn. Ira Bowman was involved with that case. We are getting attacked from all angles.
Think Ira will be penalized soon?

Whatever the case, if our 2020 basketball team full of 18-20 year old kids get penalized in any way due to Chuck's personal enrichment crimes, I will join Jay Bilas on Team Burn Down the NCAA

To clarify, this was from Ira Bowman's time as an assistant at Penn. AFAIK, it has nothing to do with Chuck Person and his ordeal.
