I didn’t either until recently. He’s been doing a live stream after some basketball games this year and he seems to be one of the few beat writers that actually cares about basketball.

If Okoro leaves

I think that would be a big mistake. He needs to improve his shot. There is no way he is a lottery pick right now. I am not sure he would even be drafted.

Who would take him? He isn't a tree. His FT shooting isn't good. He can't make a mid-range or three consistently. He is very athletic, but he isn't tall enough to consistently drive to the hoop.............when everybody knows that is all he can do right now.

To your credit, I agree he isn’t very precise on offense. That will come. It’s his defense and IQ that’s draftable. Kawhi Leonard type player with hopefully a similar offensive maturation.

Okoro’s weaknesses are things that can be taught and learned. What he excels at is very hard to teach. He’s likely a first round pick right now. I wouldn’t be shocked if he comes back if he goes late first or early second.

There is not "but." He is very athletic, plays great defense and pretty soft touch around the rim.

Every NBA team thinks they can teach shooting better than college programs

Okoro will absolutely be a lottery pick barring major injury

It’s really a win-win for us. If he’s a lotto then Bruce can sell the heck out of the fact that he took a four star player and turned him into a one and done lotto pick. If he falls to the end of the first and comes back then we get the Cooper/Okoro magic that happened in high school.

Jake
@jakeweingarten
Now, Jalen Green says that he will be attending and playing basketball in college. Memphis and Auburn are my leaders, with Bruce Pearl’s bunch as the dark horse.

Even Pearl says Turbo is a 2 and is playing out of position as our backup pg.

I know he is a freshman but he's been a terrible 1 and based on his shooting so far I haven't anything to show me he can shoot as a 2.

Someone tell me where I am misinformed?

Turbo's not a point remember. We recruited him to play the 2. He's playing out of position right now out of necessity. I wouldn't be surprised if the staff got him back to his natural position as early as the roster allows it.

JGT has said several times he thinks the staff now views Turbo as a 2 and not a 1.
Not a now thing. Bruce himself said in preseason Turbo was always recruited for the 2 but had to move to the 1 when Jared left.

That could be a result of the struggles he is having at other parts of his game spilling over into his shot. It wouldn’t be the first and won’t be the last time that happens to a player.

Disagree right now. He is a great defender and has a nose for the ball. He is very athletic, but lacks shooting touch. Not a good FT shooter right now either. He has been impressive driving to the basket, but attempted several against UF and they shut him down. Still time for improvement this year, but as of right now, he will gain more by waiting until his weaknesses improve. I think he needs to grow a bit more with his game. Seems he's just tapping in to his potential right now.

Matisse Thybulle was taken 20th last year. Okoro is, in my view, and in the view of many scouts, a similar but highly upgraded version. I'd be astonished if he wasn't a lottery pick and I expect him to go top 10.

He’s projected lottery in about every draft projection out there. I’m not sure what there is to disagree with.

Also people overrate how good of a shooter these guys need to be going into the NBA. They’ll teach him how to shoot better when he gets there.
