Yeah if our first loss comes in the next week I'd rather it come Saturday, but fear it will be to the Tide.

In all likelihood our first loss will be to Alabama. Our fan base will flip out as a result

Yep. And losing basketball games doesn't bother me because one game does not make a season until I see all the brand new Auburn basketball fans overreacting to every loss.

Appreciated the Bruce acknowledged "we are undefeated and not a very good team" it's nice to hear that perspective from a coach. Sometimes coaches will have a terrible team/offense but tell you they are better than they actually are...Bruce is refreshing.
Did you listen to AU post game interviewing Pearl?
It was hilarious. He was NOT happy about our D. And when Andy Burcham brought up a positive aspect of the game(points of second chances) hoping for Pearl's response...Pearl just sat there and didn't want to talk about it..said nothing...Burcham finally cut the interview off.
Pearl was so mad at his teams play...he didn't want to talk about the positives. So funny. Go coach!!

No one could stop Saben last night because he was getting lightly contested layups at the rim for most of he first half, largely because he was blowing by Samir with little resistance.
I watched the game again this morning. Samir got beat a lot and expected somebody else to pick up his man. Sometimes we did and sometimes we didn't.
I was the one who said he had a piss poor game on each end of the floor. After re-watching it, I firmly stand by that statement. Our guys also bailed him out on some really bad passes too. He just had a bad game, for whatever reason, last night.

I was at the game last night and found these observations:
1. Vanderbilt's offense really was good and you can tell Stackhouse has taught them well on guard play.
2. Auburn's bench is non existent, which could be a problem as we go deeper into SEC play. Anferee to me is like a co/starter and a senior so I expect him to contribute, but we are getting nothing from Flanigan, JWilliams, and Cambridge offensively.
3. Samir was defended so well he simply could not get a shot off and got rejected much when he drove to basket. Sometimes you could see his frustration and tried too hard on some shots.
4. I can't get over how well Wiley is shooting FTs. So smooth, and he looks better there than most other than Doughty and Purifoy.
5. I didn't want our first loss to be at home so I was happy about that, but GA or definitely Alabama are lining up as our first loss.

I do not disagree with you, however we need more from our starters more importantly. In particular Purifoy, Wiley, Mac, and Javon. Purifoy goes MIA and that can't happen for the amount of minutes he plays. Wiley averages 10 a game he should get that from the free throw line alone. Mac is there for defense I understand but you can't play 25+ minutes a game and only average 6 points. Harper really spoiled us with his scoring bursts from the PG position. Ideally Javon with be at 15ppg.

He is a role player on the wing averaging 10pts and 6 RPG. Wtf do you expect from him? He also has made huge progress on defensive end.
If Purifoy picks up his 3FG and given more opportunity to cut like past game, he'll be great

Purifoy has been a very solid piece on both ends this year. I'm not sure what some fans seem to want from him. He's doing a good job.

We need more production from our bench outside of Anfernee.... just about any other team in the league we lose that game last night, especially with the way the game was called.

I just don't see this bench having any sort of scoring punch other than from Anfernee and/or Jamal Johnson. I think Johnson was largely unplayable last night against those caliber guards defensively (will be similar vs Bama, Kentucky and a couple of others) but we do need him to knock down some shots.

I'm scared they won't have the opportunity.

Like all Auburn Teams under Bruce, they exceed my expectations. After last year and the folks we loss, I never expected this.

This...
Samir is a VCU transfer...he plays like a poor man's George Gervin. We need IMO more than he has to give but we should be thankful we are getting what we are getting.
Wiley...most would love him to improve his offensive moves or develop a mid range jumper. I wonder about the jumper with his improved FT shooting. He has been our MVP to date. He deserves a ton of credit for working hard. Also, we are terrible at getting him the ball when he seals the block.
Purifoy...he is a serviceable role playing starter. I agree with the above sentiment, I don't understand the frustration directed at him but I assume it stems from the expectations of recruiting and his freshmen season.
J'Von...the fact that he plays at the level he plays is amazing. We couldn't ask for more from him. Big guards will give us issues, but they have been for the last 3 years.
Okoro...IMO we have gotten more than we should have expected, but if this team is going to go from a decent tournament quality team to a possible SEC championship type team he'll need to grow quickly as an offensive facilitator. Chuma did it last season why not Issac.
Mac...couldn't ask for more. He plays as he's always played with heart and effort.
JJ...to date he seems to be a spot up shooter but J'von is struggling getting the kick out to him on the drive. If Okoro improves passing out while going down hill we will see more from his spot minutes.
Flanigan and Cambridge are role players and both play with a ton of energy. You can't expect much more.
IMO this will be one of the least talented teams we see at Auburn in the near future. I view the reliance on Samir, J'von and JJ as a reflection of the year we self-imposed a recruiting ban. If we had a sophomore talent in the range of Okoro's HS ranking to go with the freshman guys we'd be an interesting match up. We need to stay above .500 in SEC play and grow as a team. If Okoro can facilitate offense we might be in it till the end of the SEC regular season.
I should quantify my previous prediction. We might have more talented teams, but that doesn't mean they'll play as well as this years team. We aren't appreciating how this team has shown up 14 nights and won every time in different ways against several very solid teams.

Totally agree T97, good post. This will probably be the least talented team going forward under Bruce and is less talented than our two previous teams. But it’s fun to watch Bruce scrape out every single bit he can get with this group. He’s a helluva coach.

Just got a really good segment at halftime of the Oregon Arizona game on “why auburn could be #1”

Great post. I’m going to comment on one part of it and that is Okoro. I watched him 15+ times the last 3 years and I never thought he would be what he has given us so far. He must of been playing at 70% in HS or Bruce is just that good at getting the most from his players.
What Bruce has done with the team so far this year is outstanding. It still doesn’t seem real to me honestly. We’re top 5 in the nation right now and he’s got me to where this feels normal.
