From Hooks on the Scout\247 bball board about the first day of summer practice
quote:
First off the mood was electric with several new freshmen in and the vets returning. The staff was all smiles and it was awesome to see Ira running several drills yesterday. Ira is a fantastic guy and I personally believe AU hoops is for the better with him on the staff... Here are a few things I saw yesterday and things I gleaned..... 1. Okoro is the real deal. Looks to be around 6'6 now with a frame that only God can gift to a barely out of highschooler. Skilled and was knocking down the three ball with ease. In the three point challenge drill he and Jayvon killed it with over 100 points in the time allowed (that is a fantastic score FYI) Okoro is built to be a three man. He brings elite athleticism, high motor, good handle, court vision and the ability to either drive or pull up with lethality. Early in practice they were doing a full court pass and finish drill and on the break the ball was set to be in Okoros hand for the finish...Jayvon delivers it and says to him "show me something big dog" and Okoro with that great smile he has brought the house down with a massive tomahawk jam....the kind that has the ferocity that gives one the momentary feeling he hates that rim and wants to rip it off the backboard. All the players went nuts and you could see the bonding already starting with this group. 2. Flanigan was impressive. He's got a good frame to build on and is skilled. Clearly a gym rat and is comfortable right off the bat like one would expect from a coaches kid. I believe Flanagan will be a help this year in a limited capacity but as the years progress will be a key role player. I glue kind of guy. He's athletic which CBP loves and his system rewards. 3. Othter freshman- well no other was in practice. Turbo arrived injured and is on the road to recovery. Williams isn't medically cleared to play yet. (I won't go into it but he will be fine in a little bit) I did talk with him and again big time athlete with a great frame and super humble to talk with. Stretch- as we know isn't here yet but I did hear very good news yesterday so hopefully this is headed for a resolution that gets him here sooner rather than later. Franklin- New JC kid. He hasn't quite arrived but will be here shortly. 4. Returning group looked very sharp and fit. I did not see anyone who partied too much after the final four run. Jayvon was really taking the lead yesterday. He seemed very comfortable in doing so with the group seemingly happy with it. Mac look particularly sharp and fit. He really looks more and more like the Mac of pre injury which time wise makes sense. Wiley was ready. I talked with him pre practice and he seems mentally determined to finally have that break out year we all know he can have. Cheers to ya big fella! Lastly, this team may add one more but we shall see. If it happens would be game changing. That's all I can say regarding that. All in all it was great to see the band back together with some pieces moved on and some new one starting. Lastly, recruiting news....... Folks what CBP has done behind the scenes over the last years is simply heroic type stuff. He is massively taking advantage of everything AU offers and what his teams have accomplished. They have new banners in the practice court that pop regarding all the accolades which were hung just in time for last weekends massive recruiting event. 2020 is shaping up to be one for the record books. A class that has zero historical comparison as all other classes will not be comparable. AU is in a position that we will be forcing some 5 star kids to either commit when we want them to or they will be left out. We have that many options......let that sink in for a moment. I admit I still struggle to believe it but it's the truth of where things are with 2020. The past two years have been beyond bright but the future could be even better. Exciting times no doubt!! WDE!

Hm. Pump the brakes. I like our potential but we lose so much.

This team is going to be really fun to watch. Probably the most athletic we've been across the board since probably the 98/99 team. They'll be young and probably take some time to really gel and develop into the system, but they will be entertaining as hell regardless.

Lot of good info there but dude needs to work on his writing skills
For one, he probably needs to make sure he actually knows how to spell our players names correctly. He kept saying "Jayvon", pretty sure he's referring to J'Von McCormick. Thought he was talking about Javon Franklin, and he still would've been spelling it wrong, but then he said Franklin isn't on campus yet. He should already know how to spell J'Von, but especially now that he's going to be our starting PG
Typos all over the place
Then wtf is this sentence?

He was prolly rubbing one off with his dominant hand when he typed it out. Dude has access and I appreciate what he does for the program and the info he shares but he can be a bit of a homer and fanboy at times.

I know several CEO types that can’t spell or write for shite. I know. They’ve made my peasant arse proofread emails several times.

Jay Jacobs comes to mind. It was always embarrassing read a message he wrote that was not proofread when they slipped out into public.

When I first entered college my original goal was journalism and I wanted to be a sports writer. My dream would've been to be a beat writer for Auburn, but I let people talk me into switching to something with better starting with a better starting salary and higher success rate. Hooks makes me regret not sticking with it, because if he can do it then I know I could
I would fanboy out too but still keep some degree of professionalism. I could easily do it with enough awareness not to include dumbass redundant sentences like the one I highlighted. I could definitely do it without all the typos too. I know I have a decent amount of typos in my posts on here but that's mostly from autocorrect because I post from 100% from mobile and don't care to proofread message board posts that I don't get paid for.
It's become a pet peeves of mine how common typos are by journalists these days. Doesn't matter how big the publication, it seems like editors these days just don't care about proofreading anymore. I remember in 5th grade my teacher used to give us bonus points for English if we could bring in need articles with typos and correct them, but that would be WAY too easy with today's media

CHUMA OKEKE
F, Auburn | Sophomore
Height: 6’8” | Weight: 230 | Age: 20 | Last Rank: 39
Okeke tearing his ACL in the NCAA tournament was an unfortunate turn for the versatile forward, who was trending toward the first round at the time. Given he’ll be unable to work out for teams before the draft, his fate is somewhat in limbo, but in testing the waters he’ll be able to feel out where his floor is and the likelihood of landing in a good situation. Where he might have once been something of a tweener, Okeke is an interesting fit from a positionless standpoint given his ability to knock down shots, rebound and defend both forward spots. He’s light on his feet, has great hands and racks up blocks and steals. If he continues to improve as a shooter and expand his perimeter game, Okeke could blossom as a low-usage role player at the NBA level. He fits a useful mold as a combo forward, and the fact he’s injured may not preclude teams from taking a chance.

JARED HARPER
PG, Auburn | Junior
Height: 5’11” | Weight: 175 | Age: 21 | Last Rank: 100
Harper is a pitbull of a guard and was a huge part of Auburn’s run to the Final Four. His height is an impediment, but he boasts a 6'5" wingspan, shoots and passes it well, and teams love his intangibles. He’s a tenacious defender who has shown well during the predraft process. His best case might be a two-way deal next season, but he has the type of competitive personality you want to hedge your bets on. He could eventually work his way into a backup job somewhere.

#90 Simi Shittu, Vandy

That'll help him out big time in making a roster because he can still hold his own on defense against taller PGs

Thanks for getting me hyped Hooks. I'm not putting in stock into Wiley though.

I’ve seen your creative writing skills put to work against other fanbases. I have no doubt that you can write sports articles that go like:
-Introductory Context
-Content to end with small pieces of new information.
-Small pieces of information along with more rehashed context
-Concluding Context.
Twitter is great because it eliminates lot of the old information that has been regurgitated a thousand times. Why did Wolk leave the career behind and what’s the scoop on the new kid that replaced him?

Tyrell Jones undergoes Surgery
quote:
AUBURN, Alabama — A key newcomer in Auburn's basketball recruiting class underwent surgery recently and will miss offseason workouts, Auburn Undercover has learned.
Point guard Tyrell 'Turbo' Jones underwent surgery for a left tibial stress fracture. The surgery was performed by Dr. Benton Emblom at Andrews Sports Medicine Center in Birmingham. The expected recovery is two to three months, an Auburn spokesperson confirmed.
“We have the best sports medicine staff in the country," Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said in a statement released to AUC. "When our student-athletes report, there’s an evaluation done on them unlike almost any other. There’s a difference between pain and injury. Tyrell played his entire senior year with a lot of pain in his shin. Upon further review, a pretty serious injury was detected.
“With Jared Harper leaving and Tyrell being out for the summer, this puts a lot of stress on our backcourt.
“We’re looking forward to him being back at the start of the fall semester.”
The freshman signed with Auburn in November as one of the nation's top 20 guards in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite.
"From baseline to baseline might be the fastest guard in the country," says Brian Snow, 247Sports recruiting analyst. "A jet with the basketball, and also is a very good vertical and lateral athlete. While he isn’t a pure point guard, he sees the floor well in transition and is a better passer than most expect. His shot is inconsistent right now, but he shows signs of being solid from beyond the arc. Has all the tools to be an impressive guard, but he needs to be more consistent with his decision making. Should develop into a starter for Auburn."
