Haha.. funny you picked up on that. But I actually edited it from "NCAA tournament bid" to "NCAA Final Four" this past December after returning home from Maui. I could sense this team could be dynamic, with Wiley having a role and Purifoy being the missing piece once he returned. It seemed we were set up for a tournament run, unlike last season.
This thread is my celebration. I've enjoyed the journey from not being competitive to competing and beating the very best. I couldn't be more proud of the program right now, regardless of how it ended. We will be back because I know we'll continue to get better but I'm reluctant to move on too quickly out of respect for what we have just accomplished. The best team and season in Auburn Basketball History.

And for those calling for a new thread.. you do realize this thread is three years running?! How long will it take before you realize you're actually in the 2019/2020 thread already? Gene is Houdini with these threads.. he's just talented like that.

I, for one, didn't realize this thread was from 2016. I am about 1/3 of the way through reliving it all, and there are some glorious moments so far. A lot of Harper/Brown/Okekee forshadowing. Man the whole Wiley/Purifoy fiasco was a horrible thing for us. If you have some time, go back and read through this gem with some hindsight (it's 50/50). Even some big recruits names that I saw on other teams in the tournament. That's all we talked about all in Jan/Feb/March of 17...recruiting, no talk of game play. We just went to the final 4...still can't wrap my head around it.

Hawks just ended their season by being up two, fouling a three pt shooter with .1 seconds left and losing by one. Nice consistent ending to both my basketball team’s seasons.

Yes and no. Harper father Patrick publicly has said that Jared fully plans/wants to go to the NBA but he did leave open the idea that if his prospects for getting drafted look very unpromising he could return (you must read between the lines)....
Now lets look at the details of this process.......
Mark this date down April 26th....this is when NBA combine invites go out. Only 60 names will appear. Therefore if your not invited there is ZERO chance you will be drafted in either round.
It gets a bit more complicated this year as this is the first year the G League is doing a camp prior to the NBA Combine camp. Harper will for sure be invited to this camp and he could impress enough to then get an invite to the NBA camp but as of today no way no how is he getting a NBA Combine invite as he is way too far out of the top 60 on all draft boards that exist.
So what does all this mean?
My take is if Harper doesn't get an actual NBA Combine invite then he and his family will be forced to really rethink things as his options drastically diminish. If he is not drafted then his next option is to play summer league in Vegas and hope to impress. This becomes very risky as if one doesn't break through there then your looking at G League or Europe. Jared's goal has always been the NBA. If not drafted the chances of this decline significantly. The road in the G League and Europe doesnt lead easily to the NBA. Remember this is Jared's #1 goal in all this at this point.
The reality is another year at AU would not be the end of the world and give him additional time to show out and safely crack the top 60. Honestly if not drafted in the first round the economics and risks really increase. The Harpers are a close knit great family and I have zero doubt are getting good advice.
Time will tell but this isn't as much a done deal as the PR optics would have one believe.........
