Talk me into Billy Napier
He seems pretty smart. Turned down jobs at Miss State and South Carolina. Patience man. Unlike Muschamp, who should've stayed at Auburn as DC for at least another year before taking the South Carolina job. It's just too hard to win at those schools.

winning at the Univ. of Southwestern Louisiana (aka ULL) is not easy....they have not had a decent team since the mid-90's when Jake Delhomme was their QB

To be fair, they won 9 games each year from 2011-2014 under Hudspeth, but fell off his last 3 years winning 4, 6 and 5.

Napier has won 7, 11 and 9 so far this year, with their only loss to Coastal Carolina by 3 and he has them ranked #16 currently in the AP and 19 in the playoff rankings.

I do like the idea of bringing in a young coach to inject some much needed energy. He's only 41 and has coached under both Saban and Swinney - he was Clempsons OC/QB coach in 2009-2010. While that doesn't guarantee success, I'd be much more inclined to invest in a coach that learned under those two that have put together the best two programs of the past decade.

Any idea if he calls his own plays? I'm still a little weary of a HC trying to do both.

Change the dates and doesn’t that describe Chad Morris?

well...to be fair .....during that time span they had to vacate a total of 22 wins due to violations..

You're missing the part of Napier's resume where he has sustained success as a HC.

Chad didn't go on to see how the best in the game does it(recruiting wise for Saban and Bama). Nor did he have a successful HC tenure anywhere.

Even if it does so what? That means we have to nix every good resume?

I mean the other option is hire coaches with losing records.

Exactly. Morris jumped from Clempson to be head coach at SMU(6 years removed from being a high school coach) and then Arkansas. Not exactly places where you're set up to win, especially 7 years after the program was completely reinstated after the "death penalty" at SMU. Then he took over at Ark after Bielema and tried to run his offense with Bielema's pro style players and not a whole lot of talent to work with.

Napier coached under Saban in 2011 and then 2013-2016. He took his time in the assistant ranks - 2005 to 2017 - before he made the jump to a head coach in a role he knew would be a springboard to a bigger job.

He turned us down because he wouldn’t conform to the ShitShow that is Auburn Football. Don’t I blame him from turning us down.
