We need an outside receiver to compliment the slots.

Where was Fairweather?

The defense has got improve. We looked slow and lost multiple times.

Offense looked good and the QBs had time to make their reads.

Better performance from the offensive line than I expected and the secondary looked very good.

I am not sure how many SEC teams have a running Qb this year but that could give us issues.

I know at least one team that does, and he's very fast, and that is Milroe at Bama. That first series when the UMass QB was healthy did not bode well for the Iron Bowl.

LSU, Arky, Ole Piss - all QB’s who can run, and will run on us.

Makers,

Good eye, I noticed that as well, we have to stay in our lanes, looked like Owen Pappoe was our front seven coach at times, running ourselves right out of the play.

Stats look great with the sacks etc. but look a little deeper and that was due to bringing extra people, also would explain why they kept getting those chunks of yards when running.

Thorne looked pretty good and will get better. Some of those passes he and the receiver were not on the same page as far as what route was being run. That will get fixed.

I liked the effort from Burton to run up from all the way from the LOS to go block for Sean to run in for that TD. That kind of effort will show up during film study.

When did we pick up Griffin Speaks? I can't remember his name ever being mentioned but he was making some plays.

I still have no idea if we can pass the ball. Looked pretty stale in that regard outside of the big play to Fair. Rushing offense looked very good with a lot of variety there. Seems like the same opening game we’ve seen in that regard for the last many years. Defense did some good things and. Some things to improve on. Team looked very well focused.

Thorne missed some passes. Puts too much air under them at times. He had Deal wide open for a TD and threw it to the outside shoulder and had him turned around. He also had a WR completely unguarded and wasnt able to capitalize on it. He is more mobile than we gave him credit, moved well in pocket. Man he threw some dimes too. That TD pass to Fair was a thing of beauty.

Robby is an elite runner. Passing, not so much. Going to be frustrating to see him and Thorne swap out in the redzone for an entire season.

WRs looked great for the most part. A few loafs that were noticeable and a missed opportunity on a contested ball. All in all a solid performance

OL looked great. Pass pro was solid and the run blocking opened up lanes and got good push.

DL was good. Had a couple sacks, tfls and controlled the line of scrimmage sans the first drive. Impressed with number Faulk.

LB were a mixed bag. Assante played well and filled the gaps. Keys, not so much. That kid did not have a good game at all. Side line to sideline speed is concerning

CB/S were good. Kaufman really showed out and impressed. Simpson had himself a game but dammit DJ, catch the damn ball! Coverage was mediocre. Too much cushion at times and tackling needs improvement. Scott also showed flashes as well.

K/ST were impressive. Battie is freaking amazing on kick offs and I was glad to see our K was able to kick it into the endzone....a little concerned he cant put it out of the back, but I'll worry about that another day.

Thought our offensive line was improved…I knew it would be, but it was nice see the proof of concept.

The Payton/Robbie thing works better than I would have thought.

Holden Geriner paints a picture with his balls

Really like Jay Fair’s game. He showed out today and showed why he was the talk of camp.

I liked the adjustments on defense

I’m just going to have to get used to a more Big XII kind of approach to defense this year under Roberts and give up any hope of having a dominant DL. Marlin and Derrick ain’t walking through that door.

Tackling was arse. But that’ll get cleaned your in the film room and on the practice field next week.

Love how Damari slides through traffic and Cobb has some wheels!

McPherson was kicking them pretty high. He can get them out the back if he lowered the trajectory some.

Can't wait for next week. I hope it is a coming out party of sorts, and that they will have a lot of fun out there and show the late night crowd what they are made of.

We have to punch it in with our starters

I agree with most of your take but, if Ashford is best in the red zone, then he's the starter in the red zone. You play who's best at where you are.

This is coming from someone who doesn't want Ashford as the starter at all.

Also, we played a TON of people. I think the coaches definitely got good amount of looks at a lot of people.

Rewatching some, LB’s almost look to be playing too far off the Los. Seems to be some weird spacing.

If not good for Ashford is 3 TDs I'm okay with it. Sure not the best throws to wide outs, but some of those were not on him, some obviously were with no pressure. I think Peyton had some throws not go his way, where the TE or wide out took the wrong route, but that'll come with time
