Maybe he reached out to some of his REC friends about stepping in when Saban hangs it up, and they told him “sorry, not interested”.

Going to AU would be his revenge.

That is a thought but a huge risk. He is idolized where he is and has things going pretty good. It would be a hell of a risk.

Maybe I'm delusional, but following Saban at bama would be the last job I would want. I would want to follow the guy that followed Saban. Because we all know that job will come back open in 3-4 years.

He makes 10.5 million a year from his accomplishments from the past. His legend will deteriorate quickly by living off the luarels of Desean Watson.

Les Miles did fine following Saban. Even won a championship.

It's a little different following a guy that's won 1 national championship as opposed to 6.

“Don’t be the guy to follow the guy” is a dumb cliche that old timers want to say.

For one, it’s Bama. Bama is only rivaled by Ohio State.

Secondly, Kiffen and Dooby understands Bama. They know what to expect.

As long as the AD keeps the money spigots turned on then there is no reason why the program cannot continue keeping on allowing the next coach to reap the rewards of the leg work from the previous coaching staff .

Once Saban retires, there will be a push by certain boosters to regain and assert their own power. It always happens. It's no different than when you remove someone like Saddam Hussein from power. A power vacuum forms, and people who had to be quiet because Saban made it that way will see an opportunity to jostle.

Also, you grossly underestimate how fickle that fanbase will become once Saban retires. The next guy is going to have to win quickly and often or else. These types of dynasties are almost impossible to maintain, it's always cyclical. One of the reasons why is because once a fanbase becomes used to this level of winning and anoint a coach as God, it's almost impossible for the next guy to reach expectations. Even if he's good, it won't be good enough. You know this.

Even taking Auburn out of the picture, what do you think is going to happen if Brian Kelly and LSU assume the position of top dog in the SEC West? Do you think Bama fans are going to give Saban's successor grace to only be second-best lol? There is no chance in hell.

You’ve got people screaming it’s time to fire Saban because he lost two games this year. Hell no I wouldn’t want to follow that.

Was just about to say they'll turn on Saban if they lose 2+ games/yr.

Was about to say. I am willing to bet the next HC reaches the CFP with Saban recruits. Any bets?

There are 12 clowns in a circus ring. You jump in the middle and start reciting Shakespeare. To the audience you're just the thirteen clown.

Probably a solid shot that happens. But the question is do they keep them in the CFP?

Great point, that’s all on the coach though. I don’t care who the coach follows its still a great situation for a veteran coach to take over.

That's a pretty careless bet on your part without knowing:

1) Who the next HC is.
2) When exactly Saban has left and in what state is he leaving (ie: is this after a few years of 2-3 losses?).
3) Who the HC's are in the SEC and what their programs are doing.

I don't know why you assume this will be so easy. What happened to USC post Pete Carroll? And that's a program with little to no competition. Why didn't they just keep plugging along? Did their money or prestige disappear?

Who is A&M's coach going to be? Is Auburn sitting in year 2-3 under Kiffin or someone else who will create a 9+ win team? Again, did LSU push Saban into retirement? Oh yeah, and what's going on with Texas and Oklahoma?

I think you underestimate the competition here. Saban still has a Heisman winning QB and an elite RB and he's at 2-losses this season.
