Should we rotate running backs more often to keep Cam Artis-Payne fresh?

So far, Cam Artis-Payne leads the SEC in carries... He's at 110 attempts through 5 games, averaging 22 carries per game. At this pace, he could be on pace for over 300 carries by the end of the year (14 or 15 game season).

My question is, should we rotate running backs more?

I like Corey Grant with the jet sweep, not so much up the middle. I would prefer us to start getting Racean Thomas and Peyton Barber some more carries to give Cam Artis-Payne a breather every now and then.

It would seem like he's due for a breather but it's tough to make that work. You would have to start a series without him and wait for an opportunity to present to sub him back in. That's difficult to do when we are trying to push the tempo and get first downs. The last thing the offense wants to do is give the defense an opportunity to sub out. ROC and Peyton are talented and can run as well as CAP can, and probably better, but I don't trust them for a whole drive and all the assignments that come with it.

I agree. Would like to see them. But CAP is good in pass protection and blocking I think.

Also, we ar ejust resting Roc and Barber for the tough stretch of games. Didn't want to wear them down in cupcake games like LSU

CAP can rest next week... then maybe work some younger guys in the rotation.

we're gonna have to pass to be state anyway... not sure he'll crack the 20 carry mark on Saturday.

And from everything I've read, the coaches have the most trust in him to help block, so the last thing we want to do is bring in a RB that they aren't comfortable with in that situation.

That is a lot of carries. I think the younger guys will get worked into the rotation later in the season. I still keep thinking Grant will get more carries....so what do I know?

Nope. We will shove it down their throat. Then pass to make a point once we are up

I LOVE seeing CAP (this year) and Tre (last year) so tired they get the hand off and just fall down at the LOS at first contact. Struggle to get off the ground barely make it back to the hudle in time to get the ball again

I'm fine with caps work load though I thought Grant would get more consistent touches. Also wish we didn't run grant to the short side of the field as much.

I thought the same. I don't know about ya'll but I never get a good feel for Grant. Sometimes he gets stuffed then others he consistently runs it for 8-15 yards. Very well could be blocking and not his fault though

No. It has been statistically proven to this point that CAP gets better with more carries in a game.
