Maybe?

This year was going to be a mess no matter who coached though.

Many of you have already said it, but our permiter D is not good, but our D at the rim is non-existent. The past 3 or so years we've been really good there and now it's awful.

On offense we don't have a facilitator. We also don't shoot well from the outside. We also don't have an inside guy to go to.

We will be fine with favorable matchups Big teams will destroy us as they already have. This likely won't get better.

We have some talented players this year but we don't have a talented team. A lot of the pieces don't fit together and many are somewhat hybrid players in their role. Lots of single ball play, which has not been the case in recent years, we had guys that generally fit well into a specific role. Some of that will come together a little more as they keep playing together, but we have a lot of guys that like being on the ball and don't really know how to play off the ball well.

Defensively, lots of bad communication and feel for each other, as well as a lack of size. It is a bad combo to have with an early schedule like ours. Some things will improve over the season, but the glaring issue are going to be hard to fix.

I don't think we've lost a game yet that I thought SP was out coached.

This is just not a good roster, and the good players that are on it are overrated.

I'd agree. I think he's done well in the games for the most part. Roster just is what it is. I think they are a low seed tournament team, which was what I assumed going into the season. I haven't been disappointed with him so far as a coach. We will see how well recruiting goes, but I've not had any complaints so far with him. Really need Taad to take his game up a level as a true PG that we were all expecting. Flashes have been there again, just need to find some consistency.

It's the lack of intensity that bothers me. We've had teams with less talent and less size but they would fight you for every rebound and loose ball. Bruce's teams would literally run through a brick wall and I haven't seen any of that mentality this season.

We should have had a real coaching search instead of making a DEI hire because regardless how good Steven may be in the future, he didn't earn it. We also should have paid CMB instead of thinking we could get better value at his position through the portal.

The roster is a major problem since we don't have the size down low. But that's why you spend the money on the front end so you're not spending it to fire a coach on the back end. But si that's in the past. We got what we got. This is going to be a season of growth all around.

In what way does hiring a white guy qualify?

I was here with beatbammer, GenesChin and others during Bruce Pearl's early lean years and stood fast as we sucked. It was easier because I had confidence from knowing what Bruce had done in the past while landing good recruits like Purifoy and Heron.

Confidence into Steven has to come from somewhere... The greatest confidence builder would be he can coach just like his dad but I dont see the connection.

The Sharife Cooper team was even worse defensively though. I couldn't even turn those games on

Probably so but it was always what was gonna happen. Hopefully he brings in a good class and can compete more next year. Not sure we make the tourney this year. If we go back to back no tourney, I’d think about letting him walk

That's a fair expectation imo. I don't think that will happen though. What will be interesting is if we have back to back years of maybe barely sliding into the tourney as a bubble team and getting blitzed by every team with a pulse, will attendance and excitement around the program dwindle and start leading to emptier arenas and fading trajectory? I'd like to think what Bruce did at AU gives the program some staying power but we might find out soon that it's not the case.

Are you unfamiliar with the Fox News definition of DEI? Hiring an otherwise unqualified person based on factors outside of merit. Meaning they Didn't Earn It (DEI). White guys can definitely qualify.

Yeah, even when we were stuck watching cinmeon bowers run point it was fine because we knew what Bruce could do eventually.

That unknown quantity makes it suck. So far his tactics and coaching abilities have been solid. We'll find out real quick if he can recruit I suppose.

That's what a coaching search is for. This cant be your justification for making this hire.

Why are you acting like if a search was done that the exact same results wasn’t going to happen.

Steven Bruce and Cohen all knew who the next head coach was going to be 2 years ago. We fans knew who it was going to be.

I think Steven is a good coach. He’s not his Dad and shouldn’t be judged on that he should be judged on his own merit. I think he will do a good job at AU but this isn’t his team yet. Let’s get into next season and see what adjustments he makes to the roster and building his own coaching staff. He may decide he wants different coaches. Remember they were peers on Bruce’s staff and sometimes your equal getting the promotion to boss doesn’t sit right.

If he struck off on his own to get some head coaching experience, I'd agree with this more.

What he did do was take over his dads role immediately following the retirement which really blurs the line.

There is no merit to judge on - the players to keep/acquire were made at least in tandem with Bruce. I don't imagine they're running much differently scheme wise from when Bruce was here.

We try to run Bruce’s scheme but the passing is horrendous and some won’t attempt to pass. They are usually late and turn it over. Murphy has had dude flex cut wide open and he just won’t pass from the top of the key to the post. Cardwell developed into a great passer from the top of the key for Burgo
