What are the opinions of why the SEC has done so poorly in the tournament this year.

My opinion is officiating. And no I’m not blaming our loss or anyone else’s loss on officiating in the tournament.

Just seems the officials that called most of the SEC games this season honored the freedom of movement rules and called ticky tack fouls all year. I’ve watched a lot of the tournament games this year and it’s been like tackle basketball in some of them. Yes I know the tournament is generally a little more physical but damn I thought I was watching late 80’s early 90’s Bulls vs Knicks games out there in some. I could be way off but just seems that way to me.

That’s a solid thought IMO. It’s always so refreshing in the tourney to not have teams in the bonus for 10+ minutes in the half every time. But we also became accustomed to that.

Baylor and UNC was the worst. Looked like a UFC fight. I feel like everything changes once conference games start every year. SEC has to be telling these guys to call games like that because they’re calling games everywhere.

That one was bad for a half.

The Colgate and Wisconsin game was miserable to watch. Constantly grabbing and pushing.

I mean seriously the conference kicked the absolute shite out of a lot of other conferences teams all year long. Hell Bama beat Miami by 32 different Miami and different Bama at the time but just for reference. Kentucky absolutely smashed Kansas. Yet everyone is home now except Arky. And they have looked like shite against to very poor opponents

I noticed that too. Almost every game I watched and turned to around halftime Or late in the game there would be only 3-5 fouls only.

I think it is 2 things.
1. What u said about NCAA telling refs don’t bog games down w fouls.
2. They have so many games on different channels and back to back to back they didn’t want to have games go so late.

Also I think they want the best players on the court at end of games for better basketball and showcasing.

Not giving other teams the respect they deserve and soft apparently.

Has it really? Good. Maybe I need to start watching more of the games. I hate the NBA and what they've done to the game. I much preferred the 80's-90's era basketball where rebounding and defense were still important and not jacking a three every time you cross half court.

If you look at the teams in from the SEC only Arkansas appeared to be peaking at the right time and maybe TN. Auburn did not look good on the back end of the season. We were all only hoping we could find a groove to make a deep run, but none of us were confident. I think the same can be said for the other SEC teams.

Miami played a hell of a game. Their game plan was impressive and their defense played lights out.

By the way your point has some validity and at the very least worth a discussion.

I wasn’t specifically talking about our game. Just the SEC teams in general

I was mostly referring to the whole league, and just made the comment about Miami as an observation.

I still felt like Kentucky could win a natty and I am still shocked they lost. But they never look quite the same after Wheeler and TyTy finally got healthy as they did around a month ago

I just didn't see top SEC teams playing like they were hitting their stride and gelling well as a unit.

Like Arky and even A&M looking good in the tourney. Kentucky is very talented and that loss is wild, but you're right about Tyty and Wheeler. Kentucky never really got to play as a whole unit that much and couldn't get in a groove that you need for the NCAA Tourney.

Bama we knew could be really good or really bad, and the really bad Bama team showed up in the post season.

LSU, I think most folks could see them struggling with Wade getting fired on Selection Sunday.

Auburn, we were never really the same after the #1 ranking and the injuries. We certainly limped into the post season.

Tennessee, I honestly think they read their own press and it got in their head. So may people were calling them a Final Four team or a title contender that I think they got a little complacent.

As others have said, Kentucky just never seemed to gel with everyone back in the lineup, and Arky hit their stride at the right time.
