But I think the main thing they were looking for was just a reason to not pay Pruitt.
This.
Welp, I was wrong about that

Anyone know how much of a buyout we owe Steele? Will his UT salary offset the buyout?

About 5 mil over 2 years.
When he was hired, Knoxnews said that his new job at UT would knock that down to 4 mil.

This "promotion" might knock it down a little more
It'll be a real kick in the balls if the eventual new HC doesn't keep Steele

We owed him 5 million. His earnings do offset so we end up saving about a million.
I imagine they’ll struggle to justify him being their head coach at 450k so I’m betting we get some further relief

When I watched UT play this year, I thought their OL look pretty good at times... both the Ark and Auburn games they got good push up front. They gave up sack yardage, but they had bad and/or young QB play all year from immobile dudes. They also had some transfers playing with no spring ball.
Obviously tenn had some serious problems going on, and the OL was part of that... I think with better QBs and system (Jim Chaney is terrible) OL could’ve been a bright spot. I also like pairing Friend with Harsins mentality... really think it could work.

Do we have any room left on our recruiting staff for Pruitt?

Marcello posted a little info on the Auburn board a few minutes ago. Make of it what you will.

I'm told Rodney Garner never heard a peep from Bryan Harsin and linebackers coach Travis Williams also has not heard from Harsin since bowl week.

Honestly not surprised by that.

All good. His arse is fired. Let HR handle that.

I'm glad Garner never heard anything. Why was he entitled to hearing anything? I guess he thought he was down with the big money boosters. Good for Coach Harsin!! Run the program as you see fit. That's why they named you the Head Coach.

These coaches are still under contract from Auburn University. Harsin should have the common decency to let the coaches under contract know who will be retained and which need to be looking for another job. They all have buyouts and if they are employed by another school that would save Auburn buyout money.

I would say that would be the AD's responsibility not the incoming coach. Now if they interviewed a call to let them know they are going in a different direction would be good but if they didn't interview they worked for the university not Coach Harsin.

You’re exactly right, Corch. We have a highly skilled and well paid athletic department who are paid to handle these things. This isn’t Harsin’s job. He didn’t hire these coaches
I don’t know why this keeps coming up. If the coach that hires you is fired — you’re looking. Your agent is looking. Has anyone been paying attention to the yearly carousel? These coaches and their agents are ALWAYS looking. You don’t need an incoming coach, with no relationship to you, to let you know that you should be answering the phone

Didn’t P Marshall from that very site report last week that Harsin and Mason both interviewed TWill last week?

Or just be smart and stay out of it like he’s doing.
Auburn is the premiere viper and shark tank. Harsin is playing it professional and smart by not getting involved in dismissals of previous coaches.
