Same with a new coach. He's been here before, at the beginning phase, and if he's into doing a slow roll out so be it. It's not like our knowing staff next week rather than the last will matter come game one. And getting the right mix is more than just finding the brightest and smartest. It's about building the best team from what's available and (IMO) the same with recruits going or staying. Patience is a virtue or so I've read.

People seem to forget that Malzhan would wait unit the annual coaches meetings at times to fill his last slot or two.

This is why CBH said, "do you want it right or right now",

Because nobody wanted to work for him. Comparing Harsin to Malzahn is not what we want to hear.

Also Malzahn's coaching tree didn't have branches.

It seems the defensive hires so far (other than Schmedding) have been recommended by Ted Roof, FWIW. So if the OLB coach isn't T-Will I would expect someone within Roof's sphere.

All it means is that they're taking their time and vetting multiple candidates. For example; they are looking at Tee Martin. That means that he needs to be vetted for whatever NCAA violations were going on at Tennessee.

Or maybe he is looking to combine say ST and something else like OLB or WR/ST who knows really but I think T-Will is in the mix if he can't find someone who can be a combo person. It will be interesting to see none the less...

I feel bad for the gullible that believe and disperse everything auburn sports media gives them but this lesson seems pretty clear by now. Time has made fans forget.

Anyhow, there’s no great sense of urgency. The overwhelming majority of the current recruiting class has signed. Take the time to hire the right pieces. Pursue everyone you want to and if the end result is the guy you could have hired a week ago then you haven’t lost much.

Just my thoughts. We’ll spend years complaining about bad hires. Gotta have enough patience to wait a week or two for a new one

All of this. If the Auburn fans here and everywhere haven't figured out any of this by now they never will.

Complain complain complain of current coach, he gets fired cause he doesn't do it right. Then complain complain complain because new HC doesn't hire fast enough.

OH NOOOOOO!!!!!!! He hasn't hired every damn assistant yet. He must suck like our last HC.

lmao

so we are boiling Rocker's 15 year SEC coaching experience down to the two where he coached under Ted Roof?

It's been reported that both Zac Etheridge and Rocker were recommended by Roof to Derek Mason. Roof coached under Mason this year at Vanderbilt. I'm not saying that's his only qualification, but that seems to have played a role.

Although I do think it's a valid question to ask what Rocker has done since his last stint at Auburn. Has he had any players drafted? Honest question, because I don't know.

To be fair, I think that came from the same pay site guys that told us Sarkisian, then Napier, then Bill Clark, then Venables, then Freeze were Auburn's top HC targets.

Pretty sure I heard about Rocker from one of the Rivals or 247 guys on The Drive this week.

Zac being a recommendation was mentioned on page 20 of this thread, but I think I read it coming from a pay site too.

No, I don't have a link because all my information either directly or indirectly comes from you guys I didn't mean to start a big discussion on it though.

If you hadn't heard Roof recommended them how would you feel about the hires?

If I found out Mason was taking recommendations from Roof during games for play calls I'd be pissed, otherwise who cares?

Personally it doesn't make me feel any different about either of them, I was just sharing it as speculation for the OLB hire. It's not like I hold a Ted Roof recommendation (if true) against them or something.

I feel like Zac similar to how I felt (and feel) about Cadillac. Good story, good Auburn ties, but IMO at a school like Auburn I would expect more of a track record. Not that I don't think Zac will be successful, but he's a relative unknown compared to guys like T-Rob (who we probably wouldn't have gotten anyway, but still). If he's not an AU guy, does he get hired this year by any SEC school?

As for Rocker, I think he can be good for us but I think a lot of people are getting wrapped up in Nick Fairley's success as representative of his entire body of work. I haven't followed him since his last stint here but it doesn't seem like he's accomplished much in recruiting or on-field coaching at the 3 or 4 stops he's had since. That concerns me a little.

I think both can be successful and I trust Derek Mason to hire who he thinks he needs as position coaches, but I do think both are slightly disappointing after some of the other names that had been thrown out.

This is BS! Auburn should have announced Harsin and all assistants on 12/12/20! We, as fans, are entitled to and MUST know this information as soon as possible so we can start bitchin' about the hires as soon as possible!

It's sarcasm with an angry tone, dammit!

I was hoping people would recognize it was sarcasm as we didn't fire Gus until 12/13/20. It was also responding to RMT's post with a similar tone.

Eh, I will just go back to just reading and not posting.
