So Derek Mason has interest in the DC job! I think that would be an awesome hire! SIAP

He definitely would know the SEC offenses, and the area for recruiting.

Can someone tell me his defensive style? All i know is he cut his teeth at Stanford, and that's about it before coming a HC..

He uses a 3-4 two gap scheme. It isn't terribly dissimilar to Nick Saban's scheme, though I think they may have different pass coverage philosophies, not entirely sure.

I'd be all for Muschamp coming back. Recruits well, gets players playing with attitude, and players love him.

Even if he was just a "rental" he can set the foundation for anyone coming in. Steele had a cakewalk for example.

As mentioned, I think it's unlikely especially after seeing he told Texas to kick rocks. Makes me think he's still looking for HC opportunity

Unless Muschamp wants to coach at a small university like Samford, I am pretty sure his head coaching days are over. He had his chance at Florida and South Carolina. No Power 5 program is going to consider him.

And watch him go to Nick Saban's School for Wayward Coaches as an analyst or something.

I guarantee Saban has already reached out to Herman. Especially now that Sark is gone.

I'd love to have Mason as DC, I need sauces before I get my hopes up.

Rumors for OC for Bama include Bill O'Brien and Adam Gase...which, yeah, sounds about right that they'd get a fired NFL HC to be their OC.

Don't see Gase coming back to college after 20 years. He's either going to be back in NFL or some administrative position.

O'Brien could come back to college...

For Us, It just seems that none of our Coordinators are going to be a well known name...just a hunch...

Doubt it will be either of them TBH

By the way, there are several guys who know a few things who are getting super excited about what Harsin is doing. He's supposedly building a Bama-caliber recruiting department with actual professionals who specialize in that type of work. Expect him to bring in a full-on off-field staff. This is one of those areas that Gus cut when he got here and really showed his highschool colors.

Are these the same guys who knew we were hiring Bill Clark?

Literally no one believed that Clark was actually getting hired.

I'm talking about people who have shown some level of having an idea of what's actually going on (which is the discussion), not people who post here or on Twitter. Like not even JBoy was saying that Bill Clark was actually a target.

Yes, and the "interest" talk doesn't make much sense to me. We don't have the personnel right now to run a 3-4, and for offenses in CFB its not a good scheme. Even Saban has veered away from that philosophy. AU will get a 4-2-5/4-3 guy. The only guy I can think of that really stuck to his guns on the 3-4 was Aranda at LSU and I don't remember them being all that effective when the game evoled to what it is now. I also remember he'd run alot of "Okie" to get pressure, which is essentially bringing in a fourth lineman and pressure from an LB.

A two gap scheme takes some really different personnel than what most teams have. Also requires more heady players closer to the line of scrimmage, which frankly are hard to find. You also obviously need a huge double-gap monster in the middle. I think Mason is just talk, and I'd be concered if we went that direction.
