Interesting note from a scout on Blocton. He is the brother of Marcus Harris but a true brother, apparently one took the father's name and the other kept the mother's name. Harris was 235 when he signed with Kansas. Blocton, with a larger frame is now taller and around 275. He will grow into a very large man.

Pink alluded to this recently, he said the last time he met with him the transformation of his body was quite dramatic, its obvious he has grown and spent quite a bit of time in the gym.

He will be a good one.

July recruiting update: we are 15th in the SEC recruiting rankings and don’t have a top 100 recruit committed.

Not exactly reassuring.

If I'm reading it correctly, GA has 26 commits and we have 10. Hopefully that will change.

7th based off average which is a better measure vs volume.

We don’t have a top 100 player committed. It’s starting to get alarming.

You need, at a minimum, 6-7 top 100 guys a year if you want to compete in the SEC.

Georgia already has 11 committed.

If anything, that list is reassuring. Just go ahead and put us at 8th or 9th ahead of Ole Miss. Alabama will move way up as well. After that it just depends on how we close with the big fish left on our board. I could see us also jumping Tennessee and South Carolina and even LSU.

How many times have we signed 6-7 top 100 guys in a year?

I don’t think there’s a magic number for top 100 guys, but obviously more is better and having none is not ideal

I think what happens at the end of the month/early August when we learn the fate of our efforts with those 5* guys should tell us what we’re in for with the rest of the class.

I do agree with you, though. Gotta get those players. The staff hasn’t coached a game yet so it’s still pretty early to panic, IMO. But any year that we’re not recruiting at an elite level sets us further back from the top programs in our conference

I personally don't think with what we have been through the past 3-4 years allows us to have expectations of recruiting elite HS talent this early in Freezes career. His transfer portal moves and our current recruiting class makes me feel like he is on schedule for moving us forward. I will note for Jang (she saves all my post) that I will change my opinion when more data is available.

I just think people discount the impact of the portal. Its as if, here is how we are doing in recruiting........and by the way we got some portal guys.

Look at our starting line up in the fall, and remember some of those are from the portal two years ago. It will be well over half the starters. If they were true freshmen and redshirt freshmen (which is what they would be if they had come out of high school) we would be RAVING about the recruiting.

I think we’re going to add a few top 100 guys by the end of the month.

Hugh and company are repairing a lot of relationships this year with kids and schools this year.

For me, I wouldn’t call them expectations. Not sure Stidham is either but don’t want to speak for him. For me, it’s just a need. And I think it’s understandable that Freeze isn’t there yet having not even coached his first game for us

Still need em though

Gus (in his later years) and Hars ruined our relationships with the high school coaching ranks.

The last time Hugh Freeze coached in the SEC was 2016. These rising seniors were 10 years old.

Let the man put a product on the field first. If I was not an Auburn homer, I would not give Auburn a serious look yet either.

Maybe. We gotta see if they play well still. And I think for the most part we were pretty happy with the portal, aside from QB which eventually got worked out and maybe wasn’t our fault to begin with

Stop the panic. Wait until they sign and then post first portal period. If you are not satisfied, then it is time for you to panic and get your knickers in a wad...

Not panicking, pointing out the reality of the current situation.

If you were a high school senior right now, and until 6 months ago had been ignored by Auburn completely, would you be jumping to commit right now? We are obviously in it for several big recruits. They must be giving us a look if they haven't committed elsewhere yet? The fact Freeze has accomplished that in such a short time is remarkable, and bodes well for the future

I’m not going to give Freeze a pass if we bomb in this class. You can either recruit or you can’t. He’s got to have a class this year where we’re in the range we’re usually in.

However, you made the ridiculous statement of you have to have 6-7 top 100 guys to compete.

I went back and looked at some of our classes from when we did recruit at probably our highest level since rankings became such a big deal (I think was something like 2010-2015ish). One of those classes had 6 top 100 guys. The rest had 3 or less.

Totally agree that the number of top 100 guys is subjective. We need game changers and those tend to be top 100 type of guys, even if not always. 100 is a meaningless cutoff, though. Someone ranked 110 in one class might be as talented as someone ranked 90 in another

And the difference between a DT ranked 100 and and another ranked 125 overall might be the difference in one spot for the position itself

There’s all kinds of problems with a blanket statement like the one you mentioned. However, I think we’d all agree that we need those elite kind of players. We’d all agree more is better. I think we’d all agree that having none is not ideal

It’s hard to take the emotion and excuses out of these things. If anyone understands that we need top tier talent to win games in the SEC it’s Freeze. This isn’t a Harsin scenario where they expected a system to bridge the talent gap.
