I like Gus. I think he's a good game planner and a good x & o game day coach. I also think he's a good evaluator of talent, coaches and players.

If there's any knock on him, it's the fact that LSU, Georgia, and the cousin frickers (and maybe Florida soon) have become elite and we don't seem to be keeping up.

What does that come down to? Recruiting? Maybe we need to start paying better.

Is it just me or has the word “melt” lost it’s meaning in the last few years?

If anyone on this board is using something Tim fricking Howe wrote as reference piece, I might as well go ahead and quit life. The guy is a former political consultant with Twinkle as his start client.

Gus had a great game but I'm still in put up or shut up mode with him. Until he can beat Bama, UGA & LSU as often as he loses to them I have him on a short leash.

Lets not forget he ran the wildcat both 2nd down and 3rd and medium/long to set up that final penalty play. We had no chance of converting when they KNOW we won't throw it or scramble for a first.

I wasn't going to come here and express these sentiments because I dont want to be the turd in the punch bowl, but with the Gus do-no-wrongers posting crap like this just have to.

I won't be duped into falling back in love with him like after 2017, not until he does well against our top opponents more consistently.

Jeez, didn't we already try that? And it didn't work...may have been worse.

Whitlow was throwing on that third down play, but the sole WR option was double covered.

That doesn't make me feel any better. On the biggest play of the year we're planning a RB pass? That's also vintage Gus

After watching what he got done at arkie, that seems like a strategic move.

I don’t know if it’d be good or bad. He had to fit pieces that Bert left him and try and fit them into his offense which wasn’t going to work. I thought he was a decent play caller at Clemson so who knows.

I feel like that’s about the only good time to run wildcat. They know we aren’t throwing anyways. They’re already selling out run. Might as well get the extra blocker. Plus they already don’t completely sell out on the wildcat because we’ve burned them with a pass out of it more than once.As evidenced by them covering the pass that was called on 3rd down

I had a bigger problem with him running the wildcat on 3rd and 4 when Shivers scored. Ended up working so can’t say much but I disliked that call more.

Numbers are kind of a thing these days. The person stating them really has little importance.

Have any of you using this argument ever wondered why our opponents aren’t at a disadvantage due to their schedule?

Because we’re on it.

Swoop, Gus handled that last drive pretty much like 95% of the head coaches would have. Very conservative and no risk. No way he was going to come out with guns blazing in that position. Plus, running the wildcat there is less likely to have a fumble.

I have always hated that type of series when you are trying to ice a game but I totally understand it. The defense would have been doing everything they could to pull the ball out. I think Whitlow had the option to throw it on 3rd, he was a QB, only if the receiver was wide open which could have happened. Whitlow did the right thing and did not throw it

People were melting over the series but it was the right thing to do

I dont really think there are any of those. I have not seen any. And one game should not change anyones mind on any coach. shite can happened.
