always said that Gus has/had soooooo much potential but he had to adapt. He's always had this kind of upside, but he needed to make the changes he's made this year. I love the Gus we have right now. We stuck with him longer than most expected, and it's paying dividends at the moment.

Technically youre an idiot. For starters, winning 9 games a season is winning 9 games a season

8.83 DOES NOT EQUAL 9

Facts and shite

I've been on record that we shouldn't have paid that much for Gus. I've also been on record as saying that this was the make or break year for him. I am happy so far, but LSU and Georgia are the games I have circled. We need to be competitive in both of those games and win at least one of them for me to be happy. Both of those losing streaks are unacceptable.

It's actually a fun thread. People have been civil, for the most part, and said their opinions on Gus and public transportation.

I never was off the Gus Bus but I definitely thought we needed the administration look under the hood and make sure everything was working right

I don’t deserve to be back on the bus and I’m fine with that. I’m hoping he continues this transformation into a great head coach.

But he lost at home to Tennessee last year. Let’s not pretend that didn’t happen.

I am more of the guy standing waiting to get on the bus, taking a step, but backing off until I see a better bus...

Let's see what the bus stop looks like after the Florida game. The Gus Bus has done better, but it looks like TaM and MSU are not that strong so far this year.

I’m on the Auburn tractor.

I’m glad the Gus bus is running better thus far this year.

In 2015, I lapped the Gus bus.
I’ve passed it every year but 2013, 2017, and this year.

Passed it in a ditch after the UT debacle last year.
Passed it in 2015 after we lost all 4 home conference games.
Passed it in 2016 in Athens and during the Clemson game when Coxcat was at full pirouette.

The Prodigy seems like a good driver. Seth and Schwartz seem to have a nitro package. Derrick Brown, Davidson, Daniel, Dinson, and the rest of the D seem to keep the other vehicles off the road.

I’m just riding in the field watching the Gus Bus go fast and keep it in the road. I’ll hop on in late November.

This is what I really don't understand. Perfection is next to impossible, especially playing our schedule year after year.

What coach in the nation could play Auburn's schedule and make it unscathed? Saban? Dabo? Kirby? Like it or not, the SEC west is brutal right now, and having our crossover game as GA and FL this year is not great.

I still say Dabo at Auburn and folks would have been bitching just as loud. Gus at Clemson, he looks like a genius. Schedule differences are night and day.

ETA- Gus is different this year, I haven't been able to predict every play. It's been nice.

This is really only true for a few. This board is mostly trolling, obviously including Lanier, but in reality, the nega-posi debate is very much:

So called Nega - "I don't hate Gus but he's become so predictable and refuses to develop an intermediate passing game. Auburn can't afford a coach who won't adapt and loses 4+ games every season and has a terrible record against his rivals."

*Gus becomes less predictable, develops intermediate passing game, perhaps beats rival programs and may lose less than 4 games in a season*

Posi - "WHERE ARE THE GUS HATERS NOW HUH!"

I was with you up til this:
quote:

I hate the fact that he changed his offense and I still feel that way. I do not like the offense we are running now, I didnt like it last year and I didnt like it when Sean White was running it. I have never wavered from that.
I'm exactly the opposite. I love the offense hes running now, because it's tailored to the personnel. I don't believe he could run the offense he had in 2010 or 2013 because he doesn't have an RB with the right skillset or an OL that can block for it.

He's scheming to hide the weaknesses of our current players and exploiting the weaknesses of the opposing defenses - just like we thought he was "too stubborn" to do in the past.

Sorry man. It was suppose to be a fun thread. But like Auburn, it has developed into something else.

They are unacceptable but there is a reason we are losing to LSU and Georgia right now. And you are not going to like the answer. They are both better programs than Auburn right now. That does not excuse the streaks against UGA but we have held our own against LSU other than one or two stupid games.

Both LSU and UGA are historically better programs than Auburn. They have more wins, more championships and they both recruit better. They have better Jims and Joes. UGA right now is recruiting at a level Auburn has never even imagined. They have more 5*talent right now than Auburn has had in the past 10 or 15 years. All at one time.

We have had our chances at both of them and let them slip through our hands. A couple of them are certainly on Gus and how the games were handled. This year, Im not sure we can score with LSU or Bama but after watching UGA, I think they are our best chance at a win of the three.

My honest feeling about this season is that we can handle UF, Arky and Ole Miss. We win one of the 3 against Bama, LSU and UGA. UGA being my pick of the three due to the offensive style they play.. We should be able to slow down the run better than the passing attacks LSU and Bama have right now

And here's another thing people won't like: there's no reason they shouldn't be. Auburn has and is, consistently punching above its weight class when it comes to this arms race.

Not really, not in this era of football. Yes, UGA and LSU will have some recruiting advantages in some years, but recruiting is so global now, being the in-state school is not really all that important anymore in the grand scheme.

The only thing holding Auburn back from being on that level is the decisions made by Auburn. Auburn has failed to capitalize on its success time and time again.

From Wiki:

quote:

LSU ranks 16th most in victories in NCAA Division I FBS history and claims three National Championships (1958, 2003 and 2007), 15 conference championships, and 35 consensus All-Americans.

quote:

Auburn has achieved twelve undefeated seasons, won twelve conference championships, along with eight divisional championships. The Tigers have made 43 post season bowl appearances, including twelve historically major bowl berths.[2] The Tigers have the 13th most wins in FBS history

Basically the same historically.

Rivals recruiting rankings from '14-'18:

14: LSU 2, Auburn 9
15: LSU 8, Auburn 7
16: LSU 5, Auburn 8
17: LSU 8, Auburn 4
18: LSU 14, Auburn 12

Average: LSU: 7.4, Auburn 8.0

Basically the same historically.

How are they better than us? I guess I could waste my time and look up Georgia's stats too, but it'll be the same. The only thing Georgia has done is recruit better with Kirby, but that's a recent development.

We should be even or ahead of both of these programs. I find these streaks unacceptable. The Georgia streak is especially worrisome since we rely so heavily on that state for recruits. This is a must win year IMHO.

Great post.

I don't get these "oh we should be mediocre" type fans. Go cheer for Moo State if you don't want to be better than mediocre.
