He was only 10-19. Not all nine of his incompletions were dropped passes. What is going on here?
There were a few passes such as the speeding bullet to the receiver on the quick slant that hit too high that really wasnt on the receiver and it would be just as easy to say the QB missed the mark. So those passes are another reason why I reject your reasoning that apparently his completion percentage would be infallible if not for his receivers. Fact is there have been times where the WRs were in the right and the QB missed the mark.
The receivers are running full speed, bracing getting tackled, and worried about catching with soft hands. The whole "it hit the hands, its a drop" stuff is garbage especially when the QB stood in a clean pocket and delivered a ball a standard deviation over from where it should have been.
There is another fact that helps nobody here: our wide receivers are slow and dont break defenders down. So Payton Thorne is throwing into contested windows, where blaming the receiver and blaming the QB is hard (unless we are talking about the goal line-where Payton needlessly forced it) because each is making it harder on each other. Contested throws are difficult, but so are contested catches.
I repeat:
The times when we have sloppy QB and WR play the drops stand out the most. 2016 this board wanted to do a human sacrifice to the receivers on the sidelines. 2017 comes around and Stidham throws a couple deep balls and dropped passes were never again an issue.
In before Slacker complains about the thread or Jang

The blame game is old. It’s obvious it’s the entire offense.
We can run the ball ok except in short yardage situations. There is no consistency in the pass game due to lack of attempts, pressure, wrong routes, poor passes, lack of separation, lack of pass protection. It’s a combination of a lot of things and the blame should fall to the entire offense not a group or particular player.

Jang,
Well written and objective. The 6 drops were something Freeze mentioned, it was on X (the drops) and everyone has jumped on it.
And you are correct the ole "if you touch it you should catch it" , is nonsense, there were some very tough catches. That one across the middle Ive seen DeVonta make but I dont think he is on the roster.
The receiving room is not excellent but no one can look at six games with less than 100 yards passing and not hold the QB accountable for much of it.
If this continues we will end the season with no better idea of where we are at QB than a year ago, which is quite disappointing. Let Geriner play, give Hank some sprinkles of game time and then we will know where we stand for certain. Either they work out or its back to the portal.

It’s obvious it’s the entire offense.
The only constant no matter the long list of quarterbacks from the later part of Gus, to Harsin, to now (1st year) Hugh, is that QB's come here to regress and then look good at their next stop.

No play makers at WR. That’s the constant and has been my biggest issue the past 5 years. Plus at best middle of the pack SEC OL which gets you beat against LSU, Bama, and UGA

9 of his incompletions hit the hands of the receiver. That’s not to say the defender didn’t have something to do with the drop

He only had 9 incompletions all game. Did he not overthrow a wheel route?

my first thought........WTF?
You can think whatever you want, but Ashford has moved the offense better. That’s not debatable.

8-18 for 71 yards.........on the season. I have zero idea what you are watching. (58 of those yards came against Samford)

I’m watching him drive the length of the field against aTm, and throwing a dime in the end zone that got dropped by Hooks. I’m watching him easily go through thUGA defense and score a touchdown. Ashford can’t help that midnight in Montgomery keeps pulling him and doesn’t give him more opportunities.

Three game ago, some of us said he should never play another down for us.
He should be holding a clipboard

funny how we all felt that Florida got the worst end of the “get a mediocre B1G QB out of the portal” sweepstakes

Bad thing is, we will probably be right back in this place next year if we don’t go portal shopping.

Don’t forget Ashford lit this LSU defense up last year, and they’re worse this year. But Throne is making them look like a top 25 defense.

You were saying, dumbass? It’s clear as day that Ashford is moving the offense better.

ETA We would probably be undefeated with that kind of QB play. Ashford is an athlete........not a QB. The data is in.
