Why not just move to the east and keep Bama?

Obviously the correct answer for the entire league and everyone in it. Makes geographical sense and helps even out the balance of power.

Of course bama is ridiculous and ignores all this because they are scared or worried it will help our recruiting. Bama really is ridiculous. Could you imagine AU being willing to frick up the conference just because we are worried bama might get some recruits? I can't.

I agree, AU and UA should switch to East. Preserves both long time traditional games with East schools UT for bama and UGA for us and keeps Iron bowl alive too. Would have to send Vandy to west

There is no way the rest of the SEC, especially the East allows 5 of the Big 7 to be in one division which is what would happen if Auburn and Bama is swapped for Mizzou and Vandy.

Would make the West a joke of a division.

LSU
Arky
Ole Miss
MSU
Vandy
Texas aTm
Mizzou

Really?

Vs

Alabama
Auburn
UGA
Tenn
Fla
USC
KY

I don't understand why people want this. You want to drop our biggest rival?

I am one of a very large group of AU alum not from the state of Alabama but from Ga.

The IB is big but to me and many others UGA is bigger.

I would have no issue dropping Bama for the East and playing UGA and UF jevery year.

I miss playing FL every year, but bama and Auburn to the east would make the west a joke.

This whole East/West thing is only 20 years old. Why do we have to keep it?

What about this instead (permanent interdivisional opponents in parentheses):

Bama (LSU)
AU (TAMU)
UGA (UF)
Ole Miss (Arky)
MSU (Mizzou)
UT (SCar)
Vandy (UK)

ETA: Throw in a provision that all interdivisional games have to take place prior to mid-October, to put a little more time between apotential rematch in the SECCG (which was always my concern with the IB being an interdivisional matchup - who would want to play a game like that two weeks in a row?)

IIRC in order to have a conference championship game, the NCAA mandates you have divisions.

Those were the divisions, the teams on the left were in one division and the teams on the right (in parentheses) were in the other.

I'm sure some marketing genius at the SEC office could come up with snappy names for them since they don't break down into clean geographical areas.

Only if the SEC added a couple of monster teams to the west would I see us ever switching over to the east.

But to your original point, Arkansas is one of my least favorite games every year. There is not much enthusiasm for it, but we always have a hard time with them and they upset us fairly regularly. That game just sucks.

The SEC really had a good setup before we expanded this second time, but oh well.
