Sam Houston kid looks to be a solid player who can help ease the transition while we give our elite highschool pickups time develop. I preferred Lubin but I'll take him.

It made much more sense that Auburn's NIL funds were prioritized to meet a variety of important needs
We’ve heard that the past 2 years. If you’re not prioritizing the most important position on the field, the rest doesn’t matter. And most of those extra players we brought in instead of putting money towards a QB ended up being backups to freshmen.

Now this makes sense.

Will we look at Clemson DL Tre Williams?

Had to build the entire roster. Not just QB. Now the roster is stronger we went out and got a Top Portal QB. Like I mentioned before we are spending 2.5m over 2 years for Arnold.
Now they all have to perform

Which QB would you have preferred?

It’s time to win some games. Regardless of who we have.

We needed a proven commodity. Unfortunately, the portal was slim pickings for QBs this year, which is why Freeze should’ve grabbed 2 and hope one works out. I guess they’ll be able to get a really good look at Deuce during the spring though. If Arnold is a bust, just roll with the freshman.

Most Auburn fans said Bo Nix would be a bust at Oregon. Who saw Joe Burrow being as good as he was at LSU? Or Jayden Daniels? Oklahoma took Jalen Hurts after Alabama benched him…he turned out pretty well. Did you forget about the game where Jayden Daniels was benched against Auburn?
Examples go on and on. Jackson Arnold was in a bad situation at Oklahoma. Brand new OL that wasn’t very good and a whole slew of injured WR. OC change hallways through the season, too.

Go check the highlights of the Ok vs Ole Miss game.
Arnold is in the middle of trying to pull the fake out of the RBs belly at the beginning of an RPO when he is blindsided by a free running DE and fumbles.
He is then horse collared for a PF. He then is lassoed for a PF. He is then sacked 8 times. In between he is harassed incessantly. Yet.
He continues to run his progressions, he avoids about another half dozen sacks, he throws in some incredibly tight windows and ends up with close to 200 yards, about 70% completion rate....when his two top targets are an 8th string tight end and some midget.
You watch that film and you are salivating thinking what he could do with a decent line and receivers.
Im telling you, the kid has the tools and the mindset, now he will have the opportunity....we are about to rock.

I don’t count the Daniels kid. He’s not going to be at Auburn until after the spring, just a spot filler.

Great thing is he is only our backup until the fall at the very least.

For now I will trust Hugh and what he is doing. If Arnold gets the same results as PT that trust will turn to mad quickly though

quote:my point was, we really don't know how good JA will be
Yes we did. Stop being a hater
he's certainly not "proven" in any sense of the word
as jang has pointed out, his numbers were worse than Throne's
he may be the second coming of Bo Nix at Oregon, or he may be the second coming of Brock Vandegriff at UK, there's simply not enough data points to know right now
quote:there werent any sure things in the portal this go round, but there were a few that had better stats than JA, if not superior physical talent
Which QB would you have preferred?
guess we'll find out

A name from recent recruiting past.
Lewis Carter has entered the portal. The four star high school All American linebacker out of Tampa Catholic that signed with Oklahoma that Auburn was heavily involved in his recruitment. Has two years left.
He entered right after Zach Arnold left for West Virginia.

I made this same post about Bo Nix in 2021

So I get it and I agree.

Thanks Third,
You know far more about film evaluation than I, so I will consider myself in good company
