While I agree that the Hugh hire was a monumental error, I think we're underestimating the effect of having an active coach.

Under Freeze, there were almost no second half adjustments on offense. Same routes, same calls, same failures. How many of those close games could have been won if there was a coach who gave a shite?

I hope Golesh helps us out there.

Golesh has had to do a complete rebuild of this program from the ground up - i plan on being patient this season

Nah, we ain’t doing that again. Not in the portal world. If he doesn’t win at least 8, he’s not the guy.

Might as well. It’d be better than him talking like Hew and saying he’s so close for 3 more years. If Drago is a good coach and knows what he’s doing in the portal, there’s no reason to not win at least 3 more games this year. Especially since he brought in his QB and WRs that already know the system.

People forget we had 5+ years of complete incompetence running the show, and the product in the field shows it. If I had a son who had legitimate NFL chances as an offensive player, no chance Auburn would be the choice, regardless of if they were the highest bidder. You sleep in the bed you make. This is our bed right now, and our roster shows it. 8 wins, and an offensive output of 30 plus points per game, and players getting drafted will make our bed a little more comfortable

I’m hoping for 7-5 and will be okay with 6-6 if we show signs of life

Hugh offense never showed signs of life. Even if we lucked out and won 6 or 7 this year, I still wouldn’t believe Hugh was close.

If true, then this staff definitely has a code and specific standards. FWIW…

That has been one thing that I’ve picked up on, regardless of this specific player.

Red Auerbach, the Boston Celtics legendary coach and front office executive on dealing with agents.

So we are finalizing Larry Bird's rookie contract, already agreed on the numbers, then his agent says he wants us to pay for four trips a season for his mom to come watch him play.

"So I says to the agent, now we got a big problem. You see when we sign a player, we sign the whole thing, the athlete as well as the person, he has to be a Boston Celtic, a person of character. Are you telling me we are paying him more than any rookie in the history of basketball and he is gonna make his mother buy her own tickets to watch him play?"

To his credit Larry sided with Red saying he never asked for that, and its embarrassing, give me the contract and let me sign it.

Thos isnt the old SEC to where it takes 3 years to see results from being down several seasons as Auburn has. There were 15k players with College experience available for a coach to play immediately. Its possible for a team to steadily get 1 or 2 games better each season when bringing in a new coach thats capable of winning it all, but its more likely that there will be drastic change in year 1 but definitely by year 2 if the coach is going to be worth the money they are paid

With as many pieces as he brought from USF offensively and all the returning pieces we have defensively I'm hopeful for a smoother than normal transition year. All the key pieces on offense have played together so integrating the newer and more talented upgrades to the 25 USF offense should be able to produce out of the gate. Defense is the same situation even though it will probably take a step back this year with a little less talented group and added possessions from playing opposite a high tempo offense

Auburn leads the nation in most transfers from the G5 fwiw with 65% of the class coming from that level

Yes it has to go smooth.

Sounds like the intent, keep the pay from being too big an issue, and we've added players who know the coach and his system. MOAR superstars would be nice but only if they can be added in smoothly. The other way would likely involve no budget constraints.

Horatio didn't make it to Missouri

Wonder what he's doing now, is he gonna have a team? I think it wild be a risk taking him since he was on the field only a little time before he was injured

This is AG’s best case scenario for showing “proof of concept” in year one. He has the core of his explosive offense on campus. This should accelerate the learning curve for the rest of the team. Couple that with DJ’s defense, and we should win some games next year.

Let’s face it. Auburn has been a place where offensive players have gone to die- QBs who look like they have never seen a football, WRs and TEs who drop routine passes, and O lines that can’t block or read a defense. If his offense lights it up like it did at Tennessee and USF, the high profile players will be much easier to recruit.
