quote:Well if they aren't making anything and are trying to get some money then alot of these guys could probably just ask. But if it's to raise their stock and are unsure of the new staff and what the team is going to look like then I can understand. Players like Cam could hurt his stock staying with the offense how it seems right now.
Some guys in the portal might come back.
The coaches seems to have their hands tied without being about to grab a QB now and if they pump up Duece too much they will scare off top QBs they are wanting. So it's hard to convince a player everything is fine after the mess at QB in recent years and hype.

These scenarios are light-years apart from a transfer/portability perspective. Apples to monkey wrenches.

Lew isn’t in the portal but in the draft and coming off an injury he may not like where he is on draft boards.
Interesting. When would his deadline be to make the final choice?
For players on non-playoff teams, it’s 7 days after the National Championship game, so January 15th. For playoff teams, it is two weeks, so like January 22nd or around then. There is a small window when underclassmen can return but I’m not sure what that date is..

Not in the modern era Jang. Its about NIL money, budget and money allocation No one has an unlimited budget.
Hence why I hate college football. Constructing teams over budgetary headwinds. We might as well be discussing politics and religion on the recruiting board. If we are trying to ax budgets then its absurd Cam and Deuce are still offered big paydays. We could retain so many players just from those two paychecks.

And most here would be happy letting them go because why throw money at players that only got us to 3-9.
I'm not happy letting them go at all. I'm saying there is a different set of constraints than there were in '12-'13 and the coach has to approach the whole thing differently. He has to build an entire roster and none of us know what his plan is. No coach should be judged by letting this or that player go for X amount.
Well, I mean you can judge all you want (that's what message boards are for) but you don't have all the information and when you are building an entire roster few players are worth those high high dollars.

I disagree. You said you would be okay if every offensive starter was replaced.

All I know is with the current "norm" in CFB there's a whole lot of posters who are going to have to learn how to not let their emotions run away with them because the negative news moves fast while positive results can be weeks or months away.
I know what happened at UF has a lot of people on edge about G5 coaches, but UF didn't fail for a lack of talent. Hell Lagway was a 5 star, #1 dual threat QB. By all rights UF was stacking talent and splashing cash and with Napier they went 6-7, 5-7, 8-5, and 4-8. A grand total of 2 more wins than Auburn had over the same time period
.
Just throwing money at players won't solve a damn thing, let the roster moves happen and let's see where we stand going into spring practice. Half these players that declared could come back. 100% of them could leave. We could pay for a super well rated OL and he turns out to be deaf. We might over pay for a QB who will be selling insurance in another year or 2. We might scoop up a "never gonna start" LBer who turns in an All American performance. None of us can guarantee any 1 player will or won't work out, be it talent, decision making, work ethic, maturity, fit, scheme, weed, watches, or women.
We've been stuck on a miserable ride now for years, but maybe there's light at the end of the tunnel. Or it's a train. Who knows, but ain't none of us in a position to lay new tracks so buckle up sourpusses and sunshine pumpers.

What if you could throw money at players and develop? Why does it have to be one or another?
Newflash even the football factories miss on highly rated players too. It takes keeping the money spigot on to field a great roster unless you just want Auburn to be a stepping stone school.

I wouldn't even call our fanbase all that impatient, relative to other teams with our level of support. We've sucked for the better part of a decade and are still selling out home games.
But this isn't going to be a "we're all starting over fresh with a new coach" scenario. Golesh doesn't have that capital in college football. Turn in a 5 or 6 win season and Auburn fans are going to remember this guy was a G5 coach with a slightly above average record. And with our schedule next season, that's a very strong possibility. I knew and expected us to lose a lot of players to the portal, but the exodus has been far worse than even my dim expectations. If we can't lure some of that back, it's hard to see us replacing it with much considering how we've approached the portal and NIL to date.

USF Keshaun Singleton enters the portal

Jang,
You are like that ole New Orleans commercial of the rent to own place. The employee says "boss, she is a deadbeat, she has no credit, this loan will never pay off".
And the Boss says "Let er have it".
You have already overspent the budget by 10 million and the portal has not even opened yet
TJ Finley is back in the portal, give em 2 million Let him have it

Can't let an impatient fan base influence your plans.
That's what a mentally weak coach would do.

Remains true. Doesn't mean I'm happy seeing a talent like Coleman leave.
But if Golesh has $12-$15MM earmarked to build an offense and he's decided that out of that budget he can't afford for one WR to utilize 20-30% of that budget and Coleman leaves after his best offer I'm not indicting Golesh for it. He has plenty of runway (at least for me) on this first roster before I'll start questioning his approach.
I gave Freeze the same benefit of the doubt year 1 even though I never liked him. Started questioning him when PT was our QB again for year 2.

Freeze immediately bolstered the roster with NFL talent. Of course you gave him time. He didn't go the Harsin route and cut meat from the bone.

No. I'd give any coach time. Now more than ever there is more than one way to win.

Man, some people are wild. Some are acting like we have lost so many good players. There are only a few that have entered the portal, that I would want keep anyways. Maybe five.. Cam, Carter, Blocton and Amaris. Ok, four.
It’s going to be a fun next month. We have a ton of money to spend, with the expectation of a top portal class incoming and the excitement of bringing new players in.

Crawford and Lew too.
Those listed are lots of meat on the bone that would help Golesh in his transition

I hope you’re right, but I won’t hesitate to be critical if we pull in a bunch of scrubs that other top teams wouldn’t even look at. A class like the one where jayire shorter was a highlight won’t cut it.

Lew is declaring for the draft, right, so kinda different than this portal talk and I’m not a big fan of Crawford, and would rather have other CBs that are in the portal.
There are teams out there that have 30 plus and even 40 plus players entering the portal. Look at Florida State, how many like 30 something and they didn’t even have a head coaching change.
